Anyone replace center tunnel trim piece?

I've got a scratch on mine—anyone know how, exactly, it's installed? Can I replace it with a new one without scratching the new one up?

(This is the long trim piece that runs down both sides of the center tunnel.)

It's removable but takes some effort...

I have debated taking it out myself (since I too have a scratch), sanding it out, and then repainting it.

Let me know if you decide to do it... it's not hard, just a pain in the butt! You have to take out the entire center console to do it.

Took me about 15 minutes to get the center console out. It isn't that hard at all, only problem is that it is only two pieces. I have some pictures from the removal in the It works iPod thread.

So the parts guy says the long trim piece is actually two parts—a front section and a rear section. Can anyone confirm? Looks like one long piece to me.

There are two pieces. The split happens at the start of the front cup holder.

2 Pieces, the front piece is really easy, unscrew the shiftknob and a few screws. Can't say for the rear though.

its not that hard actually took mine out and painted the whole thing a piano black, looks pretty good. Taking out the whole console prolly took me 20-30 min. i know there is a thread in the do-it-yourself that tells you how to do it. but putting the console back in is a pain. things tend to get scratched.

Also instead of replacing or repainting them you can cover them in vinyl. Mine were all scratched up so I used a 2mill Avery Metallic vinyl and wrapped the pieces. Looks nice, you have a wide variety of colors, non permanent, and low cost. Just a thought.
