Anyone attempted the BEL RX75 remote radar installation?

Picked up my 8 a few weeks ago and realize the need for 'authority' detection. This in-dash system is pricey, but looks like it could be a worthy add-on. Anyone successfully installed?

in dash is awesome but get the BEL RX75 Plus...it is the same unit but has Laser Jamming capabilities... (but you can always add the 'plus' later if you wish)

Just so you know Bel owns Escort Radar...the two units... SR7 and RX75 are virtually the same units but different externals (bel has the voice response system as well and costs less)...but the new Bel model has been slightly updated from the Escort brother and supposedly works slightly better (although negligable)

As for installation...just look for how to install the SR7, ZR3 (Escorts Laser Shifter) or even the SRX (dealer installs only...well usually : )

There are other members who have done the install themselves...you'll get a response soon I'm sure...but make sure to do it right so you are getting optimal detection (and laser jamming if you get it)...talk to RX80wn3r he has done the SR7 and ZR3 install and is very knowledgable.

this site has a nice writeup on the bel/escort/valentine radar tests...it also includes a laser shifter test. I have the passport 8500 x50 and zr3 shifter. if you go to the escort site http://www.escortradar.com/manuals.htm they have directions for the install, pretty easy.

The SR7 and SRX are much older units- The RX75 is the same unit (and latest technology) as an RX65 except just set up as a remote unit. They are generally sold only through installers so price is around $1100 and up. The upper model SRX can be bought on ebay for a decent price- under $700- but I have heard it won't be warrentied through the manufacturer- most likely any radar unit on ebay may have the same issues- which is why I paid a little more and bought my 8500 X50 at retail for $285. Escort has not updated their remote unit yet (with the X50 technology)- I called them and they said it was a year away or more.

I really wanted to get a remote unit but ended up being to pricey for me- so now I am doing my best to conceal my 8500 abobe my mirror with justy the laser sensor peeking out from behind the factory tinting.

I have a friend with an older remote unit and he had had to replace his whole unit- so I'd say it is possible to do a self install. Here is the installation manual- see what you think after reading it.

BTW anyone know where to order a windshield bug (or button) to get rid of the suction cup mount?
