any audiophiles try this?
I was looking into the way the setup is done on the 8 audio wise. We have decent tweeters, so for a daily driver that never enters competition I have no interest in changing them out. The 9 inch woofer in the door hits base pretty decent. As we all know, its too large though to adequately hit the mids, and hence the distortion. My thought as I was looking at a set of Hifonics speakers I used to have in another car...
What if I kept the stock tweeters and woofer, but install the 6.5 speakers I have, and use the X-over to put the highs only to the tweeters, mids to the 6.5 and lows to the 9 inch stock woofer? Has anyone tried this or considered? Apart from the issue of mounting, would this be a possible alternative?

Door woofers have a 0.5 ohms impedance. Useless for aftermarket gear, and even if they did work, you'd still be driving very cheap, paper cone speakers with poor output. If you want audiophile quality, you want to rip everything out IMO.
If you want just better quality, replace the rear deck speakers with quality 2 ohm speakers, and you'll notice a significant difference in clarity. You wouldn't even need a crossover, as the crossover for the rear deck tweeters are inside the Bose amplifier AFAIK.

Our cars have plenty of highs for me, so I just added a couple JL subs for bass. Still a noticable absense of mids and it sounds kinda unbalanced but its definately way better than stock.
yeah I had two sick subs in my trunk, but was running them underpowered so i got bad quality. when i can afford decent amp ill reinstall. but as far as speakers go, this was just an idea. i like loud music, so i push the speakers constantly, and they are already showing the strain. you can hear distortion constantly. i thought this may be a way to relieve the stress, but oh well. good to know. thanks for the input

yeah, i was being a bit comical, but at the same time, its not hard at all to make an improvement here. i wont go as far as to say what to do, but fortunately there are a few threads that talk about a lot of the options
i wasnt thinking the rears. thats a straightforward upgrade. im thinking my fronts. they are sounding worse and worse by the day. the distortion is terrible. and theres some bad rattling going on too, but the distortion is my biggest nuisance. i figured by taking the mid stress of the 9 inch woofers, it would allow them to produce better lows. i have good 6.5 speakers that do well for mids i was gonna use
