Annoying Audio Problem. Help Needed

OK, I just started noticed weird audio issues last Friday. Lets see if I can try and explain this.....

I use the Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty.1 for my signal processor, have 854W RMS at 4 ohm sub amp powering two kappa perfect 10's, and have a 111W RMS x 4 at 4ohm amp powering my components and 6x9's. Used 4 gauge power and ground wire and have a 2 farad capacitor (i know, band-aid), and my ground is located on the floor of the trunk, not running back to the battery.

so now the problem, when listening to the radio, CD, or IPod, I will have the volume (controlled by the 3Sixty.1) about half way, so it is not very soft, but it is definitely not pushing the speakers hard either. I will suddenly get a dramatic decrease in volume, then it comes back to normal, then back soft, and back to normal, like someone is taking the volume **** and turning it up and down randomly.

It can go something like this: loud>soft>loud>soft>loud>soft>stays soft for a few seconds>loud>soft>loud>soft>loud>remains loud for a bit and doesn't go soft again for a few minutes or sometimes not at all.

I am wondering if it could be a fluctuation in power, if it is the 3Sixty screwing up, if i need to upgrade to 2gauge wire and run the ground back to the battery, upgrade the engine grounds, alternator about to kick the bucket....I have no clue. So I figured I would ask the gurus on her and offer me any advice that may help me solve this problem because it is rather annoying.

Also, when it first happened, I turned the volume **** for the 3Sixty down, my IPod was still on and I heard a lot of static coming through the tweeters only, and went away after cutting the car off and then cutting it back on when I left where I was.

Thanks in advance and I do apologize for the lengthy post.

plug a source into each amp and test it from a line output signal. radioshack will have a headphone jack to RCA cable if you don't already own one.

Dont forget to check all your grounds and power connections.

I think the 3sixty is going bad. My audiocontrol LC7 always had lots of static and alternator whine and I think it was defective. Sometimes it would get REALLY bad, and then I'd have to shut it off and leave it off for a few minutes and it would go back to it's normal alternator whine and static.

I think it is the 3.Sixty for sure... I used one for a while and they are really touchy and have some problems.. maybe just get a cheapy LOC to bypass the 3.Sixty just to see if it's your amps.. but I'm betting it's not.
