Amp / sub install question

First off, I have the base system, not the Bose.

I want to install a small sub enclosure and an amp just for that sub. Can I run the power line to the battery and get the signal from the rear speakers? I want to avoid pulling the head unit. If I can accomplish, how do I, what do I need, etc.

I looked at the sticky's with no luck. Thanks.

a lot of people have used a Line Out Converter to tap into the rear speakers for their signal when adding an amp. So you should be fine. There should be mention of LOC's in one of the stickies.

This will help with wiring an LOC:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-wiring-4-channel-loc-132087/

No need to tap the head unit wires though, as all you need is 2 channels for the sub. Just tap the left and right rear speakers, wire them into a 2 channel LOC and then use the signal outputs on the LOC to go to your amplifier. Power for the amp is gonna come from the battery, ground can be anywhere you want as long as its on the chassis and bare metal. Remote turn on should come from the rear cig lighter outlet.

Oh, the colors in the DIY are the same at the rear speakers as they are coming from the HU. So all you need to do is splice the right color wires together, which are all stated in the DIY. I highly suggest a Navone Engineering line output converter. They are cheap as far as price but work exceptionally well. Unlike some others I have used which crapped out on me, the Navone has held up awesome.
