Alpine type S versus Infinity speakers

I work at a Best Buy, and thus get a discount on stuff they carry. I'm looking to upgrade my stock speakers to the nicest speakers they carry. The two contenders are 5x7 Alpine type S, or 5x7 Infinity speakers. Oh, and for now I'm not going to put an amp in- just straight swapping the speakers out. What do you guys think?

I think most guys here go for the Infinity speakers because the impedence is rated better for the Bose Amp...if that's what you have.

Infinity stand behind their warranty. I just RMAed a 5 year old Kappa Perfect 10.1 sub. No questions asked.

Wow that sounds pretty good Rotary Rasp. Yeah I have the base stereo, no Bose here. What size are our speakers anyway? Bestbuy.com says they're 5x7, while Crutchfield says they're 6x9. I would tend to trust Crutchfield over Bestbuy, but I wanted to check with the people I trust most first ;-)

the base stereo has 5x7/6x8 for all four speakers. the Bose system offers the 6x9's in the rear with 9" woofers in the doors.

If you're looking to get the best that Best Buy offers I would say the Alpine's, but both of them have their limits. But if you're just running them off of the factory stereo Infinity's tend to be more efficient than Alpine. I would check the RMS power handling of both and they should also tell you the efficiency of the speakers, it'll be on the box and say something like 1 watt at 1 meter.

Go with the Infinity's....trust me. ( Click me )
A forum member here recently copied my stereo build but did it with Alipine speakers.... I got to listen to his next to mine; no comparison.

I have the base unit and I installed the Infinity's because they were much more efficient. The 6X8s were a perfect fit in the front. I put the 6X9s in the rear, but had to mount them from the bottom due to the height of the mid range and tweeter. Perfect fit there as well.

If I had went with the Alpine's, I would have had to install an amp to drive them. As it is now, I have enough power to drown out the engine with the stock exhaust. They sound very good. I recommend them highly.

I work at Circuit City and we used to carry both brands.

I at one time had an all Alpine Type S setup and an all Infinity setup. By far the best sound to me came from the Type S setup. At first it was just 4 Type S speakers on a factory radio and it was still crisp and clear. If you add one of the older Alpine amps to it, it will prove to be one of the better sounding systems.
