Alpine LCD & PS2 upgrade for my 8!
Here's a pix of 2 new buttons. The right one is to turn on and off my amp and the left one is for my led underbody and 4 new red interior neon lights, 2 under the driver and front passenger seat and 2 under each front seat.
|
here's the alpine moniter..... a little high but does not get in view of either driver or passenger.
|
pix of the glove box with the passenger's ps2 controller and the led underbody pattern control, 9 different patterns.
|
oops, here's the pix.
|
pix of the middle console where the ps2 controllers plug in..
The toggle is to turn on and off the power inverter for the moniter and ps2. |
pix of the ps2 in the middle console where you can get to the trunk.
|
another angle of the ps2.
|
pix of moniter on.
|
pix from the outside.
|
last pic..... a different angle of the lcd screen.
|
Ewwww.. I don't like that monitor at ALL. It looks so out of place like it was an afterthought.
But cool idea. |
Why?
Props for investing energy in getting all this installed - but I still don't get it why anyone would want a PS2 in their car.
When are you playing in your car? Isn't it easier to have the PS2 at home? I guess not understanding the general idea comes from the fact that I'm likely a lot older than you... :) |

very clean install! with exception to the eyesore lcd screen.
It would have been great if you had NAV and hacked it so that you had access to the screen via a toggle switch. (Doable) |
nice products and nice try, but horrible job installing it.
|
very nice custom shit
love it |
Jeeeez you guys are kinda hard on him. Although I wouldn't really want it that way either I commend him for doing it and he CAN watch DVD's and play games when he wants to. That's more than any of us can do. I would bet that monitor can be removed too when he is not using it. Great job and probably much easier and cheaper than hacking into the Nav!! Love the access to the PS2!!
Hey KC enjoy it!! As long as you are happy that is all that matters. :D |
you should look into getting one of the japanese case thingies..

Thanks for the comments, good and bad. yes i can take the moniter off. watch dvds, play ps1 or 2, play a cd and play a mp3. The moniter has another aux. for a nav. system.
This is a temporary install for the moniter until i can scratch up a few buck to have a custom install similar to the the rx-8 with nav. The picture really don't do it justice. it really looks better in person. |

WHOA
WHO CARES IF IT LOOKS A LITTLE MESSY THATS AWESOME (i am easily amused) anyways, how much did it cost if u add up the lcd screem and the p2s and anything else that was necessary for installation? id like to put a ps2 in my car also |
Hehe I like the DVD & PS2, looks nice! Would a been great back in my University days in the long *cough* Hot boxes *cough* me and my buds use to do in my Civic to have that set up! Now I just get hyped just sitting in the car! Anyways, nice job!
|
Thanks for the compliments, everything was pretty cheap bec. I bought everything from e-bay/the internet and save about 3 to 4 hundred dollars. For example, the alpine moniter is retailed on crutchfield for 400 dollars but i bought mine in ebay for 175 bucks! you can't beat that! So after everything is said and done, i probably spent about 450 to 500 dollars for everything installed.

Props man, that's a huge amount of nice work. I'd love to see some pics of the internal neons at night. Now, for those of us with Nav... anyone make any progress in splicing the video output??

Might want to watch out. If I remember correctly, where I live, it is illegal to place a TV in the driver's view.
|
Its illegal in CA also
|
I would like that case "hole" even if I don't have the LCD. That is a great Idea for dead space.

wow that's a pretty clean install...i don't really know what everyone is talking about that it looks messy...the only wires i see are from the radar which i suggest you route straight to something...
anyway, just a few suggestions: 1) move the radar up around the rearview mirror area and perhaps route to Homelink system - you get rid of the wires and you get an extra cig adapter free, also you get 360 degree protection cuz right now it's being blocked by the LCD screen... 2) maybe find a way to place the LCD screen on the dash without the pedestal or move the base of the pedestal lower? right now it seems a little too high and distracting... just a few suggestions but overall a wonderful job...i especially like the buttons, very clean looking...and the controller ports in the center tunnel look awesome! too bad you can't use the factory nav buttons to control the onscreen menus! |

Great idea!!! i never thought of that! That's something that i will do and post pictures after it is done. 2. i don't get this question bec. i can change the cd/dvd from the back seat without any problems.... if you get a chance, please clarify. 3. After having the LCD screen in for the last couple of months, i now notice how crappy the pictures i took are. The pictures DO NOT DO THE INSTALLATION JUSTICE! The LCD screen is not im my way at all.. The radar detector is more in the way than the screen. Thanks again for the comments and suggestions and will be taking your advice about the radar dectector. |

Originally posted by BRx8 at first glance it seemed that the CD player tray was being blocked and so i thought it'd be better to have it laying vertical in which the PS2 is actually designed to do also...but after viewing the picture again it isn't blocked so i edited and omitted that #2...:D https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=11338 |
I really like how you installed the buttons and toggles. It looks so clean. Ho did you do it? Just careful cutting and glue? Very nice!
|
I don't understand why you need this in your car, but you did a nice job installing it. One observation though - You need to clean your dashboard.
|
its not something you need
but why not if you ever need to kill time you can watch a movie in the car |
Well, if it's about what you NEED, then none of us NEEDS a sports car. An econo box gets you from point A to B.
It's what you WANT that matters. If you dont want to do anything like this, fine and dandy. But it isnt about NEED. I plan on doing a big entertainment instal myself for no other reason than I know how and love my hobbies. |
lol, thanks mikeb and genom, exactly what i would have said.
