Alarm works!!
Well folks, as much as I hate to have had it tested this way... the alarm worked great for keeping my vehicle contents IN the vehicle... too bad it couldn't prevent damage though =(
Broken Into 1
Broken Into 2
Broken Into 3
Broken Into 4
This from the owners manual:
"The optional theft-deterrent system is
designed to prevent your vehicle or its
contents from being stolen when all the
doors, hood, and trunk lid are locked.
If forcible entry is attempted, the system
sounds the horn and flashes the hazard
warning lights."
Yup, that's what happened alright... makes me sick... well, I guess it's off to the body shop with me now... I should have the car back after the weekend, but no Thanksgiving motoring for me

I've had this happen at least 3 times, I feel for you, I hate that feeling, and it pisses me off so bad. Some people don't want anyone to have anything without f**king it up. They can't go out and get a job, or attempt to work hard and get what they desire, they have to cowardly take from others. They have the mindset that you have something nice, you can buy another one. These are the same people that don't have anything, and if they do, don't take care of things they have. I'm sorry for you, so sorry.

Thanks for the condolences (sp?) guys!!
Yah, this was clearly a theft attempt, not simple vandalism, as evidenced by the pry marks on the door. I had left the ashtray cover down, with the Music Keg controller showing. While I know techinically this wasn't my "fault", I still feel kinda stupid in a way... like I could have maybe prevented it by just remembering to flip up that lid that I was so proud to have retained use of during my install. Now, I'm seriously thinking of redoing that part so the controller is concealed in the ashtray area, and just give up having an ashtray. As it turns out, I really don't use it much anyway; the coin holder to the left of the steering wheel does what I need. So, when I get the car back, I'm sure I'll be working on that.
edit/add ----> Oh, but the really REALLY stupid thing... this happened at about 5:10pm... full daylight, me and my S.O. both home. edit end.
The officer that took my report told me that was her fourth dispatch for vehicle break-ins, that day! and all within probably 10 blocks of my house.
I'm trying to keep my attitude somewhat positive though... nobody was hurt... nothing was actually stolen... and now you all know what a nice alarm you have, even without the shock sensor upgrade. =)
Thanks again for the support. I really have benefitted greatly from this forum!

jdaled, similar thing happened to me a couple years ago as well, so I definitely feel for you. I was driving my 98 Accord Coupe and they were going for the car, clever bastards smashed the small rear triangle window (cost them less to replace it after) to open the door, the alarm saved the day.
Hope you'll get your car back soon dude.

If there's ever a need for me to break into a car (to save a baby left alone in the heat or whatever) I would just break the window. Makes for easier repair, too.
Those hosers.

My friend had her car broken into also on Halloween day. Luckily, she didn't really have anything important stolen.

Shock sensor....
The optional 'shock sensor upgrade' is a piece-of-**** and has been recalled from the shelf by Mazda.
'Do not sell or install' but no mention of the poor customers who have to put up with the flashing lights, and click-click-clicking from this aborted P.O.S.

I suspect that the thief, having broken the window, leaned in and unlocked the door from the inside. Simply unlocking it, without even opening it, will trigger the alarm.
But I'm also puzzled by those pry marks. I could understand a thief trying to pry the door open to get a tool in to unlock the door, but why on earth try to pry the window from the window frame? If the intention was simply to break the window, I would think a more direct method would be simpler. Perhaps the perp was confused about where the door opened. Or maybe (more likely) he was simply a moron.

Sad sad sad. Sorry for your loss... it had to hurt to come out and see that!
As for the pry marks, my guess would be the perp used a crow bar or similar, inserted it there, then just twisted until the glass broke. Makes much less noise that way... kind of a pop, versus the SMASH sound if you just take a swing at it.
How do I know this? Former cop here.

the factory alarm wont do **** you need a good aftermarket alarm to reduce the chances of something like this happenening

the clifford has a glass sensor so the alarm goes off if the glass breaks

I know that our 8s have good alarms when compaired to other factory alarms. But I am still itching to add a little more protection.
I'm going to install a Prestige APS-996 in my 8. I have already ordered it from eBay for $124 + shipping. But I have having the hardest time trying to find the wiring schematics for this car.
See my previous post on this:

I have also posted on www.the12volt.com for anyone with info on wiring diagrams. But nobody has replied there either.
Does anyone have access to the shop manual, or a vehicle wiring database that is willing to share this.
Thanks.
