that is kinda what the installer was wanting to do. that is great and all but i am wanting to develop a part that will mount on top and where the nav would be normally. do nothing to the stock radio...i feel if it is designed right it will not be to big of a bulge on top of the dash. but will try and draw up a sketch over the next couple of days.

How about you get your hands on a navi 8, take out the top and fabricate the top cover with out the navi screen in it. Or something that the 6 has, with the flip up storage. Jus an idea.

^^^ ?Huh? I haven't bought a single part from anyone as far as dash components go. We've made them from what was already there. For that face you see, we took the stock radio face plate, a dremal, and lots of fiberglass. Not anywhere near $570.

Because it's cheaper to get it as an option. I will bet you my car if I am wrong. And I gurantee you its over 2,000. Call Rosenthal Mazda 888-450-3220. And reply me back with an apology :D

the reason why it is so expensive is the NAV is installed at the factory in Hiroshima at cost for them...then they jack up the price as a retail option here

so to get the parts for one they are only being made for orders to cars at the factory...having another made you are essentially buying it not just at full retail but there is no 'group buy' so to speak...plus you have import/export duties, and Mazda Japan is trying to make a profit and then you get it over here and Mazda N/A is trying to make a profit

well there you go, it aint pretty...the reality is trading up for a NAV factoried RX-8 is probably cheaper

GOod luck guys...the only way you will accomplish this is pulling apart a NAV RX-8. making molds, and copying the entire dash piece...leaving the monitor up to the customer

sillygrl, i wasnt trying to insult you, i was merely stating my opinion on how i think that its bullshit that it costs that much, my friend who bought his BMW X5 with no nav just the bmw business cd package (regular stereo) asked me to find and install the nav radio unit, and I found it for 800 dollars brand new and installed it for him....

yes I understand its a peice of crap, but youve got to be kidding me if you think that BMW should cost less than mazda... everything BMW costs more, its the name... and the bmw was available through a stereo shop owner friend of mine.... I just cant believe that this is the final answer... there has to be someone that can get these cheaper....
