Yep, you guessed it - I don't know @#&! about stereos. I have two 10" subs (Polk , 4 ohm rated at 175 watts apiece) and one amp (Sony Mosfet, 2 channel, bridgeable, 300 watt... I think)

The amp will power only the two subs.

So, how should I wire the amp/speakers?
Should the amp be set on "mono" or "stereo" - I'm guessing "mono"
Should the "LPF 80Hz" be in the on or off position?

ok, to begin with, you have a sony 2 channel amp, which most likely will make its 300 watts ( i am assuming that that is max) at 4 ohm mono or 150 x 2 at 2 ohm stereo. that means you have the wrong subs or wrong amp, as they can be hooked up for 8 ohm mono, 2 ohm mono, or 4 ohm stereo.

the best bet would be to get a mono sub amp as they can usually be hooked up to a 2 ohm load, (your 2 subs wired in parallel, positive to positive, negative to negative.)

Set the LP to on, set the switch to stereo. Wire each sub up to each channel. Do not turn the gain control up too high or it will send a clipped signal to the subs and destroy them in no time flat.

If i'm not mistaken you have the Polk GNX 104 subs. I had those, very nice and clean for the 40 bucks I paid. I upgraded to Kappa Perfect's 10.1, they hit much deeper.



I'd get a 2 ohm amp if I were you.

fyi- they make a GNX 102 which are the same subs but 2 ohms.

Okay, I think I've got it - wrong subs or wrong amp. But, I know the combo will work... and I don't want to throw any more money at this project... yet. So, it sounds like, given the 2,4,8 ohm issue, I should set the amp on stereo, turn the LP switch on and hook the speakers up one per channel.... and start shopping for a new amp/set of subs.

All that does is make the exact same amount of power and work one side of the amp much harder than the other, it increases current draw and heat output at the same time, hence bad idea.
