Lamin-x sells films for smoking headlights / tails etc. I've been running 'smoked' on all using their precut RX8 kit for about six months now.

Last night while finishing up my spring install i noticed SMOKE coming from the front of my car and quickly narrowed it down to my fog lights. The laminate was BURNING onto the fog light as it heated up. It was heating enough that the laminate was blackening and threatening to catch fire.

I find it interesting that they would sell pre-cuts for the fogs when there's potentially a heat issue. Now I'm worried that I've got damage to the fog light housing. I'll have to take them out and see if I can clean the melted/burnt plastic off.

What bulbs are you using? I have hid's on my fogs and there has been no problem.

wow, that's pretty crazy, i thought they precut the fogs to be smaller than normal to help with heat dissipation

I'm running the stock fog bulbs(whatever those are), and yeah the precut is smaller than the lens.

as I mentioned I don't typically idle with the lights on, so I'm guessing as they sat there and heated up(probably 10-15 minutes) they started to burn. I'll get some pics later..

Mine did the same thing about a year back. After that, I'm paranoid to use any kind of film on my 8... I still want yellow fog lenses but I don't want to paint it...

Your not suppose to run with the fog lights on.

They are made to be used only during fog. Most states if not all have a law against running fog lights when not needed.

Use CRC brake cleaner on the lenses.

they don't turn on the with the headlights. they do require the headlights to be on first though. and some have bypassed it because they want it on all the time. needless to say though, they produce wayy too much heat to be left on all the time.

Any fog light will generate too much heat. And they are not on all the time.

Even on all my motorcycles the fog lights are used to heat up your cold hand in the winter.

Correct, however by US law the fog lights cannot be on without primary lights on as well, which makes them worthless (by law).

not really. foglights have a much wider spread than the headlights.

Yup them fogs get hot. I had fogs on my 3G Eclipse. I got burned when I touched one! I think its due to the light being right behind the cover. Unlike out headlights.

I have yellow tint on my fogs. Been there about 3 months now. Other than a couple of rock dings, no burn marks. And there turned on every time the headlights are on, and so far so good. Gonna have to look at them a little more often now.

I typically run them on any time my headlights are on. As mentioned before, they are kind of defeated as actual fog lights unless you rewire them so they will function with the headlamps off for use in low visibility situations.

I have my fogs on all the time, haven't had any problems with the Lamix. No burn marks, nothing. Had them on for about 6 months now.

i used to have rockblocker and lamin x and they both burned on me. instead of buying from them again, i purchased a roll of yellow film on ebay and just cutted it myself (a lot cheaper too than just buying 2 precut films) and i also have a lot of extra where i can use on something else like i can redo the film if it burns again lol. the fitment is also way better if you cut it yourself compared to rockblocker and lamin x because they tend to be smaller. ooh and to remove the goo on the fog lense, you can use alcohol or liquer thinner to remove it and it wont damage the lense because its glass. all you have to do it keep rubbing it with a cloth (it will take a while though).

You can run your foglights anytime. In most states. You just cant have more than 4 lights in the front on at one time. and they must be of an approved color. no reds, blue, greens, etc. just mostly yellow, white, and slight amber maybe.

Oh yes.. they must be above 8 inches off the ground or you can get a ticket for your foglights being too low.. I got one before... that was some bullshit. Stupid Cerritos Cop with nothing else to do but mess with me..

oh yea. BTW, if you just sit there with your foglights on they very well could generate too much heat and melt stuff. If you have your fogs on when your car is running they should be much cooler because of rushing air cooling them off.
