Uh oh Huff, it looks youv'e got a rebellion goin' on.

While I'm willing to reserve judgement until I actually see how the Mazdaspeed design is translated onto the 8, Alexs' hood is very nice looking. I think the vents are too far forward for best function but, aside from that it flows well with the lines of the car, and thats judging by a quicky PS job! A more refined design should work even better. Maybe someone could photoshop a MS style hood for the 8, just for comparison.

Okay so there's a bunch of hoods. Do these things really work? There's a carbon fiber version of the stock hood I like. Are all of the louvers and scoops going to help at low speed or everyday driving?

The Heat extractor hoods should. They wont do anything about weight savings just draw out a little heat, Hopefully!

Yes, it looks as though I might have a coup on my hands. We're going ahead witht the MazdaSpeed one first and we'll be keeping the design by Alex. The MS hood we feel will appeal to a wider range of owners that will acctually purchace the hood. Other designs will come in time, don't fret.

As for the functionality, yes, the vents or openings significantly reduce engine temps. We see regular soaring temps here in Phx. Today it is 110 deg and you can just imagine what happens to all those rubber hoses and other heat sensitive parts as they cook in the heat. ON our other project cars the vented hoods do a great job of moving freash air through the radiator and accross the front of the engine and out the vents in the hood. Also, at stoplights the you can see the vents still working as the heat rising out give that mirage effect. Saving wieght will be tough considering the great design of the stock hood but the main thing we're looking for is the functionality of the vents and since most aftermarket hood makers are now on the Carbon Fiber kick it's an added asthetic bonus.

Rotaryextreme is coming out with the Scoot style or RE style, they will start a GB in about 2 weeks and after that should take a month to make them. I emailed them about the hood and that is what they told me. Now not sure how they will do a GB because they are not a vendor or I am unsure if they are but basically he said they will start something in 2 weeks. I am just passing on information. Dont shoot the messenger!

Actually, Rotary Extreme is a vendor here, they just don't have a private forum. FYI.

EAST MOON posted a few pages from a magazine called Hyper Rev in another thread. There were a couple of images of vented hoods from R Magic and BN Sports. I don't really like them because they don't compliment the lines of the car.

Hmmm. The BN Sports one and the R-Magic ones are the most interesting I've seen posted on this thread so far. I like them because they're vented much deeper in the hood and they still incorporate some type of rotary character in the hood.

I think a twist of Alex's idea is the way to go. Take the scoot scoops and flip them from right to left. This would make the inside line of the scoops follow the line of the rotor shape in the hood. This would also make the horizontal line of the last vent closest to the windshield foillow the back line of the hood. I don't even have PS but this would look the cleanest I think.

That's kind of interesting. But I wonder how effective it would be, with only one small vent that looks like it would be roughly over the back edge of the battery cover and airbox...

Actually purpose of this hood is the extract hot air out of the hood. This is same size hole as mazdaspeed hood. I have a mazdaspeed hood on my FD. It seems like this opening is bigger than mazdaspeed hood.

just make what ever design chosen to be functional and not super batmobile aggressive looking. and personnaly i would buy a hood that looked simple and clean like the one found on the NSX-R. oh yeah, I will be visiting your shop in august near the 3rd. I am moving to Phoenix in October.
