Using HID parts in Halogen headlight?
Hey all, I am looking to replace my headlights because the lens on both headlights are completely ruined. Everything else inside the headlight works fine. I want to do this for $500 or less, and the onyl headlights I can find for that price are halogens. The ones I have now are the factory Xenon headlights. Is it possible for me to use my current bulbs and what not and move them into a halogen headlight so I don't need to buy the more expensive Xenon headlights brand new?
Also, do you know where I can find these headlights?

My car came equipped with factory Xenons, after replacing a ballast and refinishing the clear covers a few times over the past ten years I finally started looking for new ones. Well, back then the OEM Xenons were about $800.00 each so I replaced them with factory Koito RX-8 halogen headlight assemblies and then installed a Murimoto HID kit. The output of the Murimoto kit in the stock halogen headlight units is better than my stock Xenons's ever were. The only thing I lost was the autoleveling function but I never noticed that working anyway.
Since I had the factory HID's I just used that wiring to power the ballasts of the Murimoto kit. The lenses are different but myself and another local who did the same thing have been running this way for a couple of years without issue.

Okay so would a HID conversion kit be necessary, or could I use my factory Xenon parts in a new halogen headlight?
I have found plenty of halogen headlight assemblies for $200 or so each, so that would keep me in my budget of $500. Or by using your setup, could I potentially spend around $500?
I am on a tight budget because I am moving to Los Angeles later this week.

You cannot use your factory parts. If you buy halogen units used for $200.00 then you could also buy the Murimoto kits and stay under $500.00. or for $500.00 you could probably find a set of decent used stock Xenons and save yourself some work.

Sorry, my phrasing was confusing. I meant to say, can I theoretically just use the plastic housing from the halogens and put them on my existing xenons? It is literally just the plastic shell lens that is looking bad. New plastic lens would make both headlights look brand new. Because it seems as though you can't just get the plastic shell, you need to buy the whole assembly.

It's not that simple. Read this thread:

I have baked open my headlights before to paint them. Thanks though.
