20% rear / 35% port windows / 55% front windows

What I have not seen and contemplated to do (probably should have), would have been to get some reflective or 'mirror tint'. Not to the point of a true mirror but "some" reflection. That would be a great combination on the titanium.

 

here in ca the mirror tint is illegal but I like it

 

I got my tints done at http://www.brianswindowtinting.com/ They use Lumar tints. I got the premium metallic with 38% front, 28% rear. I could have gone 28 front also since it's not dark enough to annoy cops, but why have the possible hassle? Whatever you do, DONT get cheap tints. Especially the rear window glass with the defroster and built in antenna, if they bork that up, it's going to hurt.

 

I am getting Huper-Optik Ceramic 30 (34% tint) done on my titanium next week :D

What kind of tint did you use, will metallic tints interfere with the radio reception?

 

I've got a titanium particle tint and have had no problems with the antenna.

 

There is a previous thread that addresses this, but to summarize:
Your metallic tint is on the inside, and the antenna is on the outside (i.e. the tint is not between the antenna and the airwaves). So - no it is not a metal shield blocking the antenna. What you MAY experience is while passing under high-voltage power lines, the metal MAY amplify the interference. Not word for word, but you get the basic idea. Oh yeah, and welcome to the forum. :D I tinted mine charcoal (has a metallic base (not reflective)), and my crappy Northwest Florida radio stations sound just fine.

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the antenna in the windshield? Top center? I thought the wire in the rear window is just the defroster.

ok so heres a question: I am going to get mine tinted tuesday and i need a color.... I love the "lexus" tint( the one on the suv's)... ok would that color look good on my red rx-8? or should I go with black?

 

Im telling you when you go to the tint shop have them so your pics from previous customers or they should be able to hold samples of tint to your window

Whats up everyone, this is my first post, ive been reading the forum for about a month. I should be picking mine up from SESI motors (YPSI Michigan) around the 14th. Got the car cover for XMAS....Now im looking for Color tints. Silver Mirror would be preferred. Anyone know where I could find this? Ive been doing yahoo/google searches, cant find anything good. Most of the car sites are amateur like.

Silver - Fully loaded, MT 6, GT, NAV, AP, RAP, Xenon, etc. 18" Mich. Snow Treads.

 

I didn't know they had silver tint until recently. Too late now.

 

I'll tell you why I don't like the mirrored tint for the RX-8. The biggest reason is the glass seals - especially the rear sides. The black rubber "rings" stand out somewhat with no tint. With a smoke tint (which I have), the glass and seals do not contrast as much, and make a cleaner look (tint it darker, and it'll all look black). Now, someone did post a photo with mirrored tint, and the black seals were VERY overt. I did not like it for that reason.

 

Anyone know what the % tint allowed in CA? BTW- all your tints in the pictures look really nice!!

 

I'm pretty sure that in CA you can't have any tint on the passenger or driver window.

If you get tint on those windows go very light if you dont want tickets

 

Mikeb said it correctly, very light. The cops will write you up for Fix it ticket immediately for dark tints on the driver/passenger side. Also there was a post of how low the front window can be tinted.

 

Hello all. I haven't seen anyone mention getting tinting done at a dealership. Is this an option, and if so, do you recommend having this done at one.

Dealers usually do offer tints for a markup. Usually best to find a high quality shop and take it there.

Anyone in the Charlotte, NC area I highly recomend Lightning Mikes they do a great job around here. Good looking tint on everyones 8's.
