Taking off rear aero flares?
Taking off rear aero flares?
I am possibly going to install a traded stock rear black bumper on my car. It has the rear aero flares installed from the factory/dealer.
Are they hard to take off? Do they leave any noticeable holes/marks/cutouts after I take them off?
Thanks!

if they were put on exactly the way Mazda says to, there will be 2 slits in the bumper - one from each flare. however, some (like me) cheated and cut those tabs off so as to not have to cut into the bumper. if you bought it that way from Mazda, then odds are you got them. they will be about 3/4" wide.

They are easy to take off. There is one nut, and one square fastener on the inside of the bumper....but both of these will leave holes exposed, as well as 3m tape along the front edge of the bumper. I have pics somewhere as I just removed mine.
But quick answers, yes, easy to remove, and yes, it will leave two holes exposed in your bumper.

If you have access to the "new" part, look up inside the bumper, you can see the hole from the inside, then YOU can be the judge as to whether they are tolerable. (They are huge.)
If the tabs were cut off by the installer, you can also see that, there is a little outline up inside the bumper, of where the holes would/should be.

and the dealer that installed mine, actually drilled two holes for the bolt, given that their first attempt didn't line up.
Thanks for the help. I knew that owners doing it themselves usually skipped the bumper holes and only did the one in the wheel well. I just wasn't sure what the dealers did if they did it properly.
