RX-8 Body Damage Worth Repairing?

I was looking at buying this, but I didn't know if the body damage was easily and some what cheaply repaired. Mostly because its on the rear quarter panel. Guy wants $1500 for the car and it needs new Apex seals. Is the exterior damage worth repairing? Here is the only picture he sent me.

It looks like maybe it just needs a new back door. Does the engine run at all? $1,500 is pretty cheap if you have access to another engine to put in or can afford to rebuild.

When considering buying this car, your main concern should be the expense of the engine work before the body work.

"Needs new apex seals."

Right...

None the less, can't go wrong with $1500. You can easily take a day or two to part it and double the money you paid for it...

So it needs an engine rebuild according to him.

Sometimes people call for a rebuild when only its a fowled coil pack ect.

Looks like you need to replace the rear door and the rear quarter panel. You should inspect the car and make sure there is no more damage, suspension components, doors open and close properly ect.

The engine runs, but doesn't idle well. I was planning on either buying a new engine or rebuilding this one anyways.

I will probably go check it out this weekend, for $1500 it seems to be a pretty good deal. Where can you get the rear quarter panel? I didn't look long on mazda-parts.com though.

I didn't realize the car is unibody, I hope the quarter panel is fine so body work is minimal.

Did the airbags deploy?
If they didn't you're looking at around 2000$ body damage + 5-7000$ in engine repairs depending on what you can\can't do yourself and the ancillaries you're going to replace (coils, wires, catalytic converter, flywheel, clutch etc).

No airbag deployment, and I plan on doing most of the work myself other than the rebuild I'm not to sure on my abilities at rebuilding a rotary. I can do all the other things that aren't internal like the coils, wires, cat, all those things. Any special things I should look for in damage?

Have the shop make sure the unibody is in spec. That's first of your worries now (for the price).

If you didn't know this car is a unibody, then I think you're in for quite a surprise on actually working with the car. I'm talking about both the body and drivetrain.

LOL....not too many cars these days aren't unibodies

May need some time away from pickups for him to figure that out
