I think most people modding their stock rims are having them powdercoated or painted professionally. Can't offer you advice on particular paint brands, but good luck if you choose to do it yourself. I recommend LOTS of prepping and several coats of clear on top of the black.

painting them yourself will never come out as nice as a powdercoat. If you still choose to go that way, good luck. it's not as simiple as 'just apply the spray and making your rims black.'

unless you work at a body shop like meeeeee

You can spray rims, but as others stated, prep is key as well as 3 good coats of clear. I use House of Kolor automotive paint with a small detail spray gun. Comes out great. Not the easiest thing to do however if you have no painting experience.

ive seen spray paint jobs come out looking like powder coat. It all depends on how good you are with spray paint.

Matte black paint is the same as regular automotive paint, for the base coat that is. There is a matte clear that you apply over it just like regular clear coat. That way you offer your paint some protection. You mix in regular clear with it to get the desired amount of glossiness. More regular clear mixed with the matte clear will make it shinier and vice versa. As far as pricing, I would have to check on that, as matte paint jobs aren't too popular for my shop. I wouldn't think it would be anymore money than a regular paint job. I will double check though. Hope this helps.

i did my own rims. i sanded them down did like 2 coats of primer, then 3 or 4 of the spray paint itself. for the spray paint they have a special type at kragen just for rims, but i would make sure if you dont go with that type to make sure that the paint can handle high heats

heres how mine turned out:
