Re-tint from 20% to limo?

I'm debating if I want to tint from my 20% to limo tint (5%). It'll cost me around $325 for all 5 windows, and $175 for the back three (two smaller ones and back window) and I was just wondering if I should get a darker tint? Right now I have 20% on the windows.

Only thing I'm worried about is visibility at night. Also, do you think I should do all 5 if I go with the limo tint or go with the back three, but would it look weird with 20% up front and then 5% on the backs?

If any of you guys have pictures of limo tint on your 8, please link or show a picture, I'd love to check it out and give me your opinion. Added is a picture of my car with 20% all around.

That's the thing, my windows are 20% definatly illegal in CA and most states seeing that for CA, legal is 75% tint. Tinting the windows was my first mod I did to my 8, and I've had them like this for almost 9 months now and have yet to get any kind of ticket or warning from cops *knock on wood* Plus with this new alarm I installed, I can roll my windows down with just pushing the button once and they roll all the way down automatically and we already know, our windows roll down pretty fast.

Just don't know if I want to go limo tint or what, or just limo tint the back three windows, but would that make the fronts look awkward since it's at 20% or what. The girl was telling me that it would actually make the fronts look even darker, and the limo tint will absorb more heat cause it's straight black basically.

As small as the back windows are you won't see an awkward difference between the two. I would just have the back ones done.

I've got 15% all around and I think it's dark enough. I'm glad I didn't go any darker. IMO 5% may be asking for trouble. It would look cool but may cause more problems then it's worth.

i too have 15% all around, and I have a silver rx8, ill have to post a pick for you. It looks great, its plenty dark...you can still see shapes thru it (ie a person driving the car) but its too dark to see their face (ie who is driving the car) so I like it, it blocks a lot of light.

Here in FL you can go as dark as 15% on the back windows and the front windows can only be as dark as 20%, i HATE the way mis-matched tint looks so I got 15% all around. My friend has 5% and it looks awsome, but you cant see out at night, and its so dark that inside the car it reflects so much light when you try to see out...its more like your looking into a mirror, he HAS to drive with his windows down to see at night.

Id see if you can go 15% all around, or just leave it at 20%, cause IMO 5% is to much for a car. Are those prices normal? They tinted my rx8 for 120 for all the windows and the sunroof with 15% tint and came with a lifetime warrenty. I guess they just charge more out there.

Does anyone know what the factory tint is in the windows? I live in MD where 35% is the legal amount of tint. On my old mirage I orginally had 20%, but got pulled over like 6 months later and had to get the tint removed. When I had my car inspected I had the MVA test my windows and they said I have 77% factory tint. So if I wanted to be legal with that car in MD I would have had to put 50% tint on, because 50% of 77% = 38.5%.

Right now my rx-8 isn't tinted, but I'm sure there is some factory tint in the windows already. I know if I put 35% on and I ever get an inspection ticket I'll fail, because I'll be putting 35% tint on probably 80 or 85% factory tinted windows which will put the overall tint lower than 35%. Has anyone had the factory windows tested to see what the factory tint is in the glass? I'm guessing it's around 80%.

The sunroof already has a fairly good tint on it, the guy that did they windows told me what lvl it was but I forget, We put some 35% tint on it and it looks just as dark as the 15% on the side and back windows.

Technicaly my tint is illegal cause its 5% too dark up front, but its such a minor differnce that it doesnt really matter, and i never even get a 2nd look from cops.

The 120 price was amazing, i had 2 friends get their cars tinted there, its a small shop thats part of a stereo place, next to a car wash. So they do a lot of cars....its not just some tent set up in a parking lot like some tint places here...

He did a perfect job on both friends cars, including redoing the drivers side window in one of their cars cause the corner started to peel a little.

Since they were more than happy i got mine done there, I think he said he would have charged 150 for all the windows and sunroof and 140 for just the windows and no sunroof, but since he did my firends windows he would hook me up...so I was happy.

One interesting thing, he said it was the first RX8 he had done, but he loves the back doors, and with how wide they open it was really easy to tint them, and also made it easyer to get at the back, so he was really happy about that...he was worried it would be like tinting the windows in the GTO he told me....

ZoomZoomH, i dont know if the drive would be worth it, but he will hook anyone up with all the windows and sunroof for 120 cash, and gives a lifetime warrenty for rips, fading, bubles, the tint coming off...ect.

They use Luminar tint I belive.

the 15% blocks 97% of harmful UV rays, 60% of the heat and obviously 85% of visible light.

Lets explore this a little further. Your car is already loud enough to rattle windows, and you have a dark tint now. You're lucky you haven't been ticketed yet. What is making your windows darker really going to accomplish? If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, I'll be more than willing to take some off your hands, but this makes no sense at all. Sorry bro...

Oh yeah, thats extremely expensive. Even if they are charging you a premium to take the old tint off, and apply the new one. Just stick with what you have, its more than enough.

Yeah when I got mine done and was anywhere near cops I'd slide my sunroof shade open to let more light in(just in case) but after awhile I just said "f*ck it". I actually talked to a cop at a Circle K once and he said most of them aren't concerned about tint unless they pull you over for something else and your being a dick or something then they might bring it up.

Yeah I was told the same thing when I got mine done. He said the 8 was one of the easiest cars to tint. I think it took them about an hour to do all 5 windows. I got mine done at Flying Windows Tint & Alarms here in O-town. It's Lumar brand and I have only been back once since last year and that was for a small bubble in the rear. Other than that I've been very very happy with it. :D

Things are normally more expensive in Cali. Got all 5 done for $225, which I would consider pretty good.

Yeah I got all windows + sunroof done 15% for $130.

They say here in PA no tint is legal on the front windows and 35% is the limit on the backs. Don't quote me, I could be wrong.

My bro has had 5% on all of his cars for the past 5 years and he has gotten pulled over a couple of times, none in which they even mentioned the tint.

price varies from one area to the next. no need to bitch about that. 20% on the front doors i won't comment on since i **** everyone off with my "stay legal" metality. since it's legal to have 5% on the rears there then go for it. it's not a problem as far as visibility. but you don't have to have the film removed on the rears to make it darker. since you have 20...have another layer of 20 installed on top of it. layering is no big deal and 20 + 20 = 4% VLT. For the record...I charge $170 to tint RX-8s and a minimum of $100 for removal of old film. Considering making it $200 minimum for removal because I don't like doing it. takes more time to remove film than it does to install it.

where did you get it done, was it a reputable shop? lifetime warrenty? That seems almost too low. I got a $100 tint on my miata, side and back window plus a strip on the front window.

I did have 5% on one of my previous vehicles and had a lot of trouble seeing at night. Had to actually lower the window to see down the road on many occasions. Anything below 35% here in Alabama is illegal, although it is not enforced. I thought of going with 20% but glad that I didn't. Would have been a little too dark for me. Plus, I agree with tiggerlee about his statement regarding darker tint.

I think that the 20% is just right I have a titanium and is enought to give me privacy. I got all 5 windows for 150 in Los Angeles and they look great.

Got it done in Selma, AL (hometown). The guy has been doing it for years and is very good, all lifetime warranty. He did give me a cut since I send him a lot of business. Anyone else might pay 120 but I would say less than that.
