Everything behind the tail light is a lot different compared to the older version model, there are different mounting holes, gotta do lots of drilling and cutting. It's not just a bolt on..

Well, don't listen to him, it's not even his car.. I started doing the 09 conversion already, and I test fitted one of the 09 LED tail lights and it doesn't bolt on. Here is picture to show you what you need to drill and cut. I'll be posting a DIY and post tons of pictures once I'm completed with the 09 conversion. I got a teaser picture in my album, where I did the first rough test fit of 09 tail light.

+1. It doesn't flow well with the older model.

big deal.... if anything just add some fill to the bumper to make the light sit flush... IMHO i like our tails, but you wanna have a change here and there ya know? and the price $700 each new from the dealer is ........well worth it if you really want them... OEM... cant really get any better than that.

Before I decided to do the 2009 conversion I did a lot of research and made my own decision about how the the lights would fit on a previous model year car. I came across a lot of pictures that helped me make a decision about going on with the project, I knew the lights weren't bolt-on's and I knew it would require drilling, cutting, etc. Here is 2 pictures to show you guys what it would like without cutting or drilling anything yet, this tail light does not just bolt-on! But, I'll hopefully post my own DIY, some time soon and I will post a lot of pictures as well!

WEll im sure after some MOD to the bumper and some of the quarter panel, once the tail sits flush... it would look AWESOME!!!

This sorta reminds me of the conversions people do on the 2nd gen rx-7, converting their s4 tails to s5. Albeit, from what people have said in this thread, it won't be as popular.

i think the new tails would look good if it was red lens instead of the clear lens.

classic EVO-R posting. I wonder if he attaches the lights with zip ties like his fender vents.
