questions on tinting the rear window?

I have seen (heard) no deterioration of radio reception and, being Florida, I have no need to turn on the rear defroster.
In my FD, I disconnected the rear defroster switch to ensure that I did not accidentally turn it on and damage the film. I don't know if it would, but plastic entombed heating elements doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
Just curious: Where would you live where you'd get that much snow and yet get sunny enough to require tint?
Or are you doing it so people won't know you're driving naked?

Your AC will work more efficiently. Reduce glare during the day and annoying high beam headlights at night. On top of all that it makes an already great looking car even better looking.
18 years of tinting for me and it blows me away how some people are. I get it everday. "I want it as cheap as possible and illegal." WTF?
I know you guys didn't walk onto the lot and say give me the cheapest RX-8 you've got.

I hadn't thought about the defroster situation (got mine tinted in the spring once the weather warmed up). Is there any concern about damaging the tint or the defroster elements?

$200 for SolarGard Quantuum 19. Rear window was one piece. It has a faintly reflective/silver look on my winning blue. And huge heat reduction.
Extremely happy with tint, although install was lacking - there are several places with 'grit' under the film on both side windows.

Defrosters don't affect film....film doesn't affect defrosters. No matter whether it's cheap film or high performance film. Cheap film will break down in the same amount of time whether you use defrosters or not. I'm in Spokane Washington where we have cold snowy winters and we tint right through the winters...I tell my customers to turn there defrosters on to help cure the film quicker.
Not once have I ever had a problem with defrosters. If the shop you go to doesn't one-piece the film then they run the risk of cutting a defroster making it useless. That's the only risk you run.

HAHAHA.......actually that's one thing I forgot to mention. Someone said something about computer cut patterns. I have computer cut. And without a doubt, any experienced tinter could cut a pattern better than any computer ever will. Don't be fooled by those companies that push the computer cut crap. We use ours for tint graphics and vinyl. But actual pattern for windows we always do ourselves.

Well I went to the tint shop and made an appointment for next Saturday. (Sept. 25th) I talked with the guy and told him my feelings. He said not to worry he'll do it in one piece and it will be perfect. He also said they haven't used more than one sheet for any car in several years. He also said if for some unknown reason they had to use 2 sheets noone would ever notice because of the way they would apply them. He assured me they were professionals and this is what they did for a living. It's going to cost $200 for the whole job but for around here (Boston) that is actually cheap. Most places charge $250-$350 and the more expensive places can't do it in one piece.
