questions on tinting the rear window?
 

I'm looking for a place to tint my windows. Every place I called said the only way they could do the rear window on the car was with strips. One place said it would require at least 5 stips. I don't want to have those annoying lines on my back window. I finally found a place that said they could most definately do it with one piece by having the rear lazer cut. I told him I didn't want to pay for it unless it was 100% to my liking.

The question I have is for those of you with tint how did they do the rear window? Do you have lines in it or is it just one piece?

Mine appears to be one piece.

They did mine in one piece....looks awesome! Took about 2 hours to do the rear, and all 4 side windows.

You'll definitely want to find a place that does the rear in one solid piece. One place I tried said it would be in two pieces, and other said it might be in 3 pieces... I said no way. I had to call around several places to find one that had the templates on a computer and laser cut them for perfectly matched windows. It turned out great, especially on my black 8. I've been in cars with bad tint jobs and you can see the seams when light hits the back window just right.

my rear was one piece too.

they had a computer cut the tint, it is an exact fit.

It was $125 done at tint america in clearwater, fl

took them about 50 mins to do it, I sat there and watched.

no bubbles, no problems, after 4 months.

125? Ouch. I could get the whole car done for 70 down here and Im talkingabout the high performance ones. I think anythingover 100 for tints is too much

almost anywhere in the country price for tinting will be 100-150 range in a professional tint shop.

naturally there are exceptions.

i thought the lines in the back were like defrosters? have i been thinking that all this time?

All my quotes in the Chicago area were $200 and up... it's very regional.

Yep, about $125.00 here (right in the middle of your range).

The thing that surprises me is that more people don't have their windows tinted. I was amazed how many cars at SevenStock didn't have their windows tinted.

It's one of the best "bang for the buck" appearance mods you will ever get.

Mine is in one piece, and I'm pretty sure it was all a hand job.

I had a mobile tinting guy come do my whole car while I was at work. 65% sides, rear, and 5% in the front. Yes the front. :D It cost $230 and every window was a solid hand cut piece. It also came with a lifetime warranty against fading, bubbling, peeling, and scratching (as long as I still own the car, or as long as the tinter is still in business). Cheaper tint will begin to turn bubbly and purple after a year or so of prolonged exposure to the sun.

Not only is tinting visually appealing, but it also helps protect your interior from heat and ultraviolet sunlight damage.

The trick is this

1. Spray some water on the back window
2. Rough cut a piece of film to fit the back window with 4 inch oversize
3. Take a heat gun and shrink the film, working slowly and carefully to ensure you don't burn the film. Use a hard plastic squeegee to smooth it out. The heat gun will shrink the film to conform to any curvature.
4. When it is all smooth and no wrinkles or air bubbles are present, trim the film to final shape.
5. install on the inside of the glass as you normaly would using standard tinting procedures.

That how They did it for me. 18% Llumar tints 115 bucks less then 1 hour. They look great

Mine was done by Altamere in Texas. The dealer had it done for me. Mine is 3 piece, it looks great! No issues whatsoever. They were able to blend it into the seems on the window perfectly.

1st off....any experienced tinter can do this rear window in one piece. It's one of the easiest windows out there to do. If the shop you go to says they are going to do it in pieces then they are a shop with inexperienced tinters. Find a different shop.

2nd....you get what you pay for. Jerky 8 Owner, saying you wouldn't pay over $100 for a tintjob is ridiculous. Paying $70 for a tintjob tells me one thing....your tint will be purple within 1-2 years. Average price for an RX-8 to be tinted is around $170-$200. Depending on the film it could go as high as $500 or more. Our price is $169. But our sale right now is $139. I can do that car by myself in 1.5 hrs. But install time shouldn't matter to anyone. Do you want a good job or a quick job?

It's amazing to me that people can go out and spend $30,000 on a car and bitch about spending $200 on a tintjob. It'll protect your leather from sun damage. It'll keep you car cooler in the summer. Your AC will work more efficiently. Reduce glare during the day and annoying high beam headlights at night. On top of all that it makes an already great looking car even better looking.

18 years of tinting for me and it blows me away how some people are. I get it everday. "I want it as cheap as possible and illegal." WTF?

I know you guys didn't walk onto the lot and say give me the cheapest RX-8 you've got.

I got mine done in one piece and it was $100 including the tip I gave the installer, plus I got a titanium film...

woops, I just looked up what I paid for my tint, it wasn't $125, it was $149, and the silver metalic tint install was $175.

So I'll have to expand my range and say $125 - $200 is most likely the normal range for tint.

One piece for our rear window. $199 for the car. But it's going back in. They didn't clean the back window very good. There are specs of dirt that that are visible. About 10 of them.

Yah guys.. I was quoted for 225 for 5 windows.. haha yah right to that place.. Im in michigan..Well the place I went to only cost me 160.. for 5 windows.. I went with limo on the back and side doors, and 20% on front two windows. I watched the whole thing.. bs'ed with the guys while he was tinting.. He was the same guy that tinted my last car at a diffent place.. you be surprized how one guys works at all diffent shops to get jobs.. Well anyways.. he did the back window in one pieice I never heard of doing any window in 2or 3 peices.. that crazy.. Well I know I got a real good deal cuz when I was talkin to him about how much it costs and whatnot he said this job he will get paid 150 bucks.. that means the tintshop only made 10 bucks on the sale.. Over all Im happy with my tint.. Black interior stays alot cooler.. :p
