Question on strake installation

Question on strake installation
I was thinking I read somewhere that the strakes were supposed to be "stuck" on in addition to the mounting hardware with double sided tape. I've searched and don't see anything like that now nor do the instructions mention it. The ones I got don't have any tape with them, but are cushioned on the back. Would some of you who have put them on advise...was there supposed to be some tape with these or are they held on totally by the mounting hardware?

Where did you get yours that you have no sticky tape and no installation instructions? Can you post a pic of one of yours from the side? I"m hoping the cushion you're talking about is 3M tape and has a thin layer that you pull back to expose the sticky tape.
Here are the instrx I used to install my DLS custom strakes. It takes a minute to load this pdf file. Hope it helps you with yours: http://www.rx8fun.com/ftp/Installati...trakes%204.pdf

Mine actually came from a dealer, but bought them on ebay. They did come with instructions which don't mention anything about tape. I was assuming the "cushioning" on the back was two sided tape, but there doesn't seem to be anything to peel back and no sticky surface to expose. Anyone with OEM strakes?

I bought the OEM strakes from rosenthal. You are supposed to take off the black thing completely, screw the strakes on from the back, take off the double sided tape (yes it is SUPPOSED to have it), then place the black mesh thing back. Properly done, your strakes should be screwed on from the back, and taped on in the front. Hope that helps.

I believe the newer Type II strakes mount differently ... just the clip to retain them and cushion on the backside to keep from scratching the paint.
No 2-sided tape.
No 2-sided tape.

Thanks Derwankel. Based on your considerable knowledge, involvement etc., I'll consider that to be the correct information. Appreciate your help!! Think I'll go take care of that right now. I'm anxious to see them on a white car. Haven't seen even a photo with white.

It's done and looks great. Thirty minute job at the most. I was back and forth on the strakes for a long time, then decided I wanted them. Glad I did it. Just sort of "completes" it or something to me. I'll try to get you a pic but it's raining here now and the car is dirty. I'll do it once I get a chance to clean it up. Now that the really "overpriced" one is out of the way, I'm going for the clear corners and splash guards (have a rear accent on the way). Konig, is that your car in the avitar? If so, send me a full pic (I see the clear corners).

Has anyone purchased any of the strakes from the guy on ebay? I think they are hard plastic instead of metal and are much less expensive than the OEM, and can be purchased in all of the OEM paint colors? Does anyone think that Sunlight Silver strakes would look good on a TI Grey, or would that look bad?

Yeah, mine have the "L" shaped bracket. It makes for a nice firm mounting and no way they can come off. Also, once they're mounted, the plastic vent can't come off without dismounting the strakes first. I really like them (overpriced as they are). If anyone is interested in seeing the strakes on white, I can email you some pics. I tried to upload them, but couldn't make it work.

I guess SSilver would look like the stock strakes to a degree. IMHO a true metal strake, flat black or car-matched paint would look better.

Just don't think you can beat the look of the metal strakes (attractive as the price is), especially on my white 8. I don't believe anything could look better than the OEM ones for me, but that's just me.

I got mine on about 3 weeks ago and there was no double-sided tape. The mounting hardware once installed secures the vents solidly, whereas before some bozo can pop it out and steal it.
