Purpose for hood change
Someone help me out with this please.. I'm having trouple understanding why folks change their hood out for CF or fiberglass or whatever. I have seen on the third generation cars air ducts for cooling but on the 8 it doesn't seem to be much of a problem.. Is it just that people need something to change or does it really have an advantage? It actually looks a little silly for cars to run around with one color body and here's this hood, unpainted just for the sake of being there. Someone enlighten me on this please??

I've always thought the exact same thing...cars just look rather ridiculous when they're all one color and then just the hood or the trunk is black CF. Functionally, it can serve a purpose as a CF hood would probably be lighter than the stock hood. Would probably make a big difference if you swapped out the hood, doors, and trunk for CF parts. Visually though, I think it looks wierd, unless your car was black to begin with.

heh. Have you lifted the stock hood? It's light as hell already. If you want weight savings, go for lighter, smaller rims, go for a lighter exhaust, replace your seats. The hood swap isn't going to save you much more weight than a can of soda.
It's purely a cosmetic thing - but even then, I have a problem with calling it cosmetic when it's essentially making your car mismatched.
I can't bash it too much, to each their own, people might say the same about me installing a borla when it doesn't add much in the way of power.
