Project Intake duct insert
Hey everybody here is my latest project.
Yeah sorry, shoud have titled thread 'oil cooler' duct anyway, This is something I have been contemplating for a long time now, going back and forth between several designs. This insert will be made for the OEM bumper and allow clearance for the fog light as well.
The design is inspired both by the bumper of the Ings+1 kit and the concepts of the accent pieces of the new-gen Mazdaspeed series. first it will be sculpted from modeling clay, after drying I will lighltly sand then make a silicon mold of it. Then I will poor a more durable material for furhter smoothing and modification. After the master is complete I will make another mold off of that. The final pieces being made from ABS. I will also experiment with Carbon Fiber, hopefully the radius' wont be a problem thanks to the vacuum molding machine we have at work.
This is an ongoing project that will most likely take several weeks to complete with various expected design iterations.... Of course onces the final product is realized I will see if there is any interest in producing larger numbers.... here is the first stage,,, clay sculpt,,,,

Update- New Design
after three attempts with craptastic clay, finally got some grat material with no shrinkage,
Aves Epoxie Sculpt- great material, easy to use and no shrinkage whatsoever...
Heres some pics of progression, I after these I took the final prototype into work and took pics of it being digitally scanned in 3D(those pics will be added monday)
The digital model is being worked on now and will be mirrored and RPed soon,,, enjoy...
took about 40 mins to ruff in and then about 7hrs to file down by hand...
