Unhappy PIAA Xtreme white 194 bulb issues with flaking tint

Has anyone else had the tint on the PIAA Xtreme white 194 bulbs flaking off?

I haven't had mine for a 6 months yet and the tint is coming off on my door courtesy lights and the clear corner bulbs. It is just starting to degrade on the map lights. The color was perfect on them but now they are turning into the stock bulbs.

I noticed that PIAA does not warranty their bulbs. Has anyone else found otherwise or can advise on what to do?

If your's are you will notice the bulbs aren't so blue anymore and some blue flakes in the clear corner or on the inside of the courtesy light.

I haven't taken a picture yet but will by the end of the week.

Very true, if a person can get these for less than $13 a pair that is considered a deal.

I had them in all spots that take a 194 except the glove box.

Which is 10 total.

I picked up some from them and some from warden_jp2002 because he had some that V-Leds didn't have like the festoon bulb and the new chip style LEDs with heat sinks.

I sent a message to PIAA's customer service to get an explanation of why they did that. I hope it isn't normal and just a fluke that they flaked.

I received a response from PIAA's service department:

There is no disclaimer on the package that I received when I purchased these bulbs...

damn... i noticed some light flaking on my side marker lights. nothing as bad as yours, how long have you had them?

i have them in my parking lights and 7440 as front turn signal and rear reverse lights too but those are fine... *knock on wood*

i may change to PIAA led's if this becomes serious...

I've had them less than a year.

When I did a Google search I found another guy on a Grand Am Owners Club forum that had the same issue: http://gaownersclub.com/forum/showth...?postid=513070

True, I was under the impression that the PIAAs wouldn't do this. I had some cheap bulbs in before these and never had a problem with the coating. I liked the color better with the PIAAs till they started peeling the tint off.

what type of PIAA you have, sir?

I only go for 5 led white or the regular 194 with GTX plasma ONLY!

The 5 led is without coating, but the GTX plasma has it!

Don't buy the one advertise as white, its not is freaking blue!!!!

Those are the PIAA Xtreme white 194 bulbs.

The color temp of these and light output is great. The GT-X Plasma seem to be a higher color temp which is a purplish color.

I do have good news to report: Alan said that they can replace them for me at no charge.

I received the replacement bulbs today.

I am much more apt to purchase PIAA in the future because of this being resolved.

I am glad that PIAA stood behind their product considering they are a premium lighting brand.
