new vis cf trunk!! good and bad...
well, i had de-badged my oem trunk lid years ago, and i took my stock spoiler off a few months ago, so after a long time of staring at my crappy trunk lid, i finally bought a new lid. cf vis, authentic.
bought from another forum member, Dethwalkin, very responsive and shipped the day i paid which was great. i could tell from his pics that it wouldn't fit perfectly, and it doesn't. cf weave is very nice, looks much better w/ the bb than i thought it would, and it's great having no holes in the lid, but it does sit about 1/2 inch or more high all around. it's a little skewed to the left too (gap along the right side is wider). oh, and most annoying of all, it didn't come w/ the screws to mount the 3rd brake light (you can see it's sitting low b/c i just have it taped in there)!!
anyway, just put it on this past week, but i have an appt w/ my body shop to get it fixed this coming week. they said they could get the 3rd brake light mounted, and "do their best" to get the trunk to sit lower for a couple hours of labor. so with the price i paid for the trunk, plus the labor, i'm still coming out on top from having ordered it through a vendor. i just hope they can make it somewhat flush!!
anyway, overall the trunk is nice, but the fitment is pretty bad. so beware if you were thinking of the vis trunk; it's nice, just plan on paying for some labor, b/c it does no fit like oem. i want to get their hood, so i hope all there parts don't fit this poorly. this is my first "body" part, and i knew i'd have to do this, b/c there is no oem trunk that comes w/o badge holes that i know of. anyway, a few pics below. i'll post more when it gets fixed to compare before and after. all in all, i'm psyched to have it!!!! i'll be more psyched when i get it fixed though!!
note: my scale is terrible. it is significantly lighter than the stock trunk lid, but that's still not saying much b/c i think the stock lid was under 20 pounds. anyway, i can definitely feel the extra .5 hp

i had read on the forum that vis fit pretty well, apparently not. and not even having the holes drilled for the 3rd brake is pretty sh-tty i think. oh well hopefully it'll work out.

depends on the brand you get, seibon and VIS ive had good experience with in the past, never seen one that bad though, sucks.
Maybe there is a way to put spacers on the bolts that hold the trunk arms to the inside. i hope im describing that well enough. cuz im thinking if you put some washers on the inside that mounts to the chassis in between the body and the rail, it might lower it some....i need to take a look at it anyways my factory OEM metal trunk isnt lined up on the left its raised .25 inch......
other than that, its is PERTY.....if you dont want it ill buy it

ha ha. no, they're spray-tinted. i did them a few months ago and didn't have to properly wet sand and clear coat, so they're very dull. look less crappy in person than the pic shows. there's no condensation, i've had both replaced a couple years ago.

Seriously though, living in the Pacific NW and not getting water in my tails must qualify as some kind of miracle. Maybe I could become a Saint or something.

sorry for the delay, i just haven't found time to take pics. i got the trunk fixed. the shop mounted the 3rd brake light and lined it with a black caulk or whatever, since it didn't fit snug like oem. they shaved down the inside a bit to make it sit lower, but couldn't do much. i got it home and unbolted the receiving end of the latch (the part that the trunk latches to) and it had a good amt of vertical play in it, actually so much that when i lowered it, the trunk latch couldn't reach it! anyway, too low and it wouldn't latch, still too low it would pull the back end of the trunk lid down, almost perfectly flush, but it would make the front part (by the back windows) flare up. so i found a happy medium, it's much lower than the original pics, it really doesn't look bad.
i still have the fact that the gap on the right is wider than the gap on the left, so i'm going to play w/ that a little to see if i can split the difference...fun fun. it does look good though.

new pics
well, it's hard to tell in the pictures, but it is significantly better. it's still a bad product imho...the lines from the window to the taillights are off (go from perfect fit at the window to a gap at the taillight). i'm going to mess w/ it a little more to try to split the gap difference on each side, but overall it looks better...and i like it
