New Paint..........

Hey all i was wondering if anyone could tell me what i should expect for a full paint job as far as price. I own a 2005 skinka Ed. and i am not to fond of the color black cherry. I know some of you out there probably think i am mad because there are only 2150 of these but hey they are not that much more special than a regular 8, the only thing that it has going for it in the special department is the sport tuned suspension which can easily be beat with an aftermarket one. now dont get me wrong i love my 8 but the color is not for me, got a hell of a deal on it though. anyways like i said i was wondering where to go ( IL, IN ) area or what i can expect to pay.............thanks, Rob

OK OK, so after careful consideration i have decided to like the color black cherry.......On a serious note i was wrong for saying i dislike the color i just should have been more careful when buying the car, but hell it was a good deal, ok so now that i have decided that a full paint job is outta my budget let me ask another question..........what am i looking at for some touch up and a few coats of clear coat???? The reason i ask is the car has a few dull spots in the paint as well as a whirlwind of noticable swirlmarks, no if i cant afford a full paint job atleast i can get the car to look and shine like new if not better. what are some of my options as far as a paint shop is concerned, what do i ask for????........again thanks for the advice, Rob

A full color change and a good paint job will cost about $4000

A VERY good paint job will be closer to $7000

I grew up in body shops. We used to laugh at people who wanted to change the color of their car. There is WAY more work than you think, And if you cut corners it will look like crap. So if anybody jumps in here and says it will be affordable . . . laugh at them.

You would be better off selling your car and buying a new one. And we all know how much $$ you lose when you do that. But in the end it would cost less AND look better.

What a lot of people don't think about is not only the whole outside of the car... but the door/hood/trunk jams, the underside of the hood and trunk... and the fact that if you don't pull the motor, and paint the engine bay, everytime you pop the hood the, you'll be seeing two different colors... not good.

+1 with what rglbegl said. there's a lot more that needs to be done for a full paint job.

What rglbegl said. Changing a color costs a lot more because to do it right you have to paint the engine bay, pillars and many other hidden spots.

You can do an exterior only color change, but that will be waaay obvious come resale time. If you don't care about resale, the bay being a different color, etc, you can get away with less cash.

Full color change is going to be big bucks so unless you have money to burn then I'd start liking black cherry.

If they're still there, Ultimate Paint (Lake Bluff, IL, north of Chicago) is/was one of the best around. But very expensive.
