now I have been looking at doing this for awhile. I talked to a few people about it but was worried I could not pull it off. now after I have done quite a few part smaller and as large as my roof I was gaining confidence to tackle a much more complex part. they other day I took the pluge and ordered extra mirrors to overlay the black part. here's how the first turned out part of the way done. I think I'm going to reuse my factory yellow part though. so what do you guys think?

next I think is going to be the audio in the trunk. carbon and paint matched fiberglass.

only have one mirror the other is in the mail. the roof is sanded down and want to get it all cleared at once. not sure when I'm going to start the trunk.

Is this a paint job or overlay? I thought you had created molds for these and actually layed the carbon...

it is a 100% hand overlay on a existing mirror that was disassembled. I always sand then clear my parts. making a mold is a headache unless there is a market and plan on making a bunch. I have overlayed quite a few things with true carbon.

too much cf indeed, but with that skill level, I could see very many parts that could use some CF. nice work.

thanks NGO i think im done with the outside unless i do the nose of the front bumper to flow with the hood, roof, and trunk. i may do another part or two on the interior.

As for where to buy its easy to find.

Im sure it is that wouldnt be any fun or the rx8club way lol. I usually ebay it for the most part to be honest. any internet composite company will have it. Be warned its not cheap when you mess up.

I did look on ebay and other sites but it is hard to tell if it is actually real. they like to play with the wording to make it sound real

how thick is the cf you are using?

3k for overlays thinest they make because no need for strength. a true part i would back it with fiberglass or use a heavier cloth. heavier does not form as easy from what i have been told.

I really dont want to turn this into a DIY or comment. Now if you attempt it and run into specific issues shoot me a PM and i can try to help. Im a firm believer in you cant learn unless you try and mess up a few times. You will learn from your mistakes and adjust it to youself to make it work

i got the driver side mirror in today. working on that one tonight as the passanger side should be finished up aside from sanding and clearing
