I'd want the hood in red, since my car is red. Ram air duct is cool too since the 8 can not have a ram air intake at the moment.

it will be ~1-2 weeks before actual production.... me and Gemini's owner is still debating on whether to make a ram-air hood.....an OEM hood.... or a vented hood?

Alright just got off the phone with Marc (owner of Gemini), looks like we might be able to start on the RX-8 hood earlier than i thought..... we might start the actual production in one week :D WOOHOO

Marc said most likely we are going for a vented hood or ram-air CF hood..... also avaliable in colour kevlar !! <---these are HOT!

As to debate.... ram-air or vented...

which one do you guys want more?

MY 2 cents :
There aint a good short ram intake out on the market yet for the RX-8 so most ppl either hasnt gotten an intake yet OR is looking to purchase an intake that extends into the bumper ( CAI )

So wouldnt a ram-air hood not really be practical for us? Since most of us dont have or wont have short ram intakes?

Shoot away guys

Ok it would all depend on the style of the vents? I can picture a ram-air only because it practical. Although I do agree with your reason...

We need some options if we go vented though

I would loose the ram air. It doesnt make any sense to have it since ram air has little effect on street cars and bikes. For example if you are going 150 mph, the pressure gain when air is brought to rest at 100% efficency (impossible) is a mere 2.75 percent. More realistically, at 75 mph you would be looking at about one quarter of that.

As you can see the whole idea of ram-air on street vehicles is a farce. It works on airplanes, where they got the idea from, but not so much on cars.

Now, if you want to go and replace your airbox with a much larger resonant box you may be able to realize some gains in power. But I doubt very much anyone is going to make a proper resonant air box for the 8.

No.

I too would like a stock-like carbon hood, but I'm curious about how much one would weight versus the stock. IMO, the stock one is quite light, and I have never propped up or held a carbon fiber hood.

I kind of like the idea--how about making the vent more Rotary Shaped? IMO I kind of like the RAM air look, however shigginsrx8 point is well taken...

Any other ideas--- I say we get at least 8 good ideas and choose from them or combine some characteristics of the choices to make our CF hoods...
