as far as cracks in fiberglass--a pothole can knock the whole damn thing off, I'm saying even taking a sidewalk, curb, speedbump at the wrong angle can mess up a fiberglass bumper.
i'm not planning on hitting any sidewalks or curbs with my kit or even now with stock car. :D

So that leaves potholes and speedbumps.... i hope i never hit a pothole big enough to damage the kit but if i do, the fiberglass isn't the only thing i have to worry about. Speedbumps shouldn't be that big of a deal if you know how to go over one.

I'm sure you know mikeb, how cautious you and all of us are with our rx-8s. I hope i take as good of care as i can to extend the life of my kit and can get my money's worth.

PUR NRG, correct me if i am wrong, but in my case, if i ordered everything from japanparts.com that i would order from rotaryextreme.com, the total would be $3928.05.

My total was $1945.... So in my case, it is about 50% right?

Let's see if I do the math correctly:
329900 MS front bumper, side skirts and rear underbody
49700 prorated shipping estimate
2200 prorated insurance estimate
$3470 delivered, at 110 yen to the dollar

rotary extreme's prices:
$650 fiberglass front bumper
$550 fiberglass side skirts
$550 fiberglass rear underbody
$200 shipping estimate
$300 painting estimate
$2250 delivered and painted

I'm not sure how you got $1985 delivered with no discount.

$2250 / $3470 = 35% discount.
$1985 / $3470 = 43% discount.
$2550 / $3470 = 27% discount (for urethane front bumper)

I will say that rotary extreme's CF body parts look nice. Not good for a yellow car but the parts themselves look nice.

If you are buying parts directly from Japan, don't forget about the import tax you have to pay when you receive the package and also the brokage fee. You prorated for those 3 items is not accurate. Shipping charge will be the same because the dimensional weight will exceed the actual weight. So the shipping for just front bumper, sideskirts, and rear bumper will still be 65,000 Yen. Your exchange rate might not be accurate either. Bank makes money on exchange rate so when you wire transfer money to Japan, they will give yo a lower exchange rate and also charge you between $35-50 for wire transfer.

So the real cost of getting those parts from japanparts.com will be
329,900 Yen for whole kit
9,897 Yen (3% import tax)
65,000 Yen (shipping)
Total: 404,797 Yen
bank exhange rate: 108 Yen to a Dollar;
Total: $3748
brokage fee: $50
wiretransfer fee from your bank: $35
wiretransfer fee from their bank: $35
grand total: $3868
your time to go to the airport to pick up the parts: priceless

Our regular price on the original Mazdaspeed kit is $3690 and we can have them shipped to your door for about $150. So our shipped price to your door, not to the air port is $3840.

Our rear wing is made of carbon fiber which is better than the original mazdaspeed one which is made of ABS plastic.

No matter what, you still save a lot of money even at retail. If you join the group buy, you can save even more.

I don't know about the import tax but that sounds reasonable. What broker is involved here?

You prorated for those 3 items is not accurate.
Sure. That's why I said estimate. But it's better to compare apples to apples and spec out the entire thing.

So the real cost of getting those parts from japanparts.com will be grand total: $3868

The japanparts quote includes brackets to attach the fog lights. You didn't specify whether your kit includes that, but let's assume it's the case. Either way the bottom line is you offer the original MS kit for roughly the same price as japanparts.com, which is great. Although you should update your website then; it lists the parts (not including fog light bracket) for $4990 plus shipping.

No matter what, you still save a lot of money even at retail. If you join the group buy, you can save even more.
Here's where you lost me. You haven't mentioned anything about total price for your replica kit including shipping, or an estimate for paint.

PUR NRG, do you just want us to tell you that you are right?! I think in my case, i am saving ALOT of money! You have to some how prove to me that i am not saving 50%. If $1,000 savings isn't enough for you, congratulations! I hope you enjoyed you autentic MS Kit.

From a previous post: $1985 / $3470 = 43% discount. If you consider that close enough to 50% to make no difference then fine.

Regardless, this is going down a rat hole. My personal opinion is a 25% discount (or thereabouts) isn't worth it to me for a knockoff kit made using fiberglass or urethane. I have my opinion, you have yours. Let's leave it at that shall we?

My entire intention replying to this thread was to help spread information. People who consider purchasing replica parts would find price comparisons useful to determine if the savings are worth it to them.

Excellently put. I just thought you were one of those kind of people who would NEVER admit that he/she is wrong.

Let's agree to sort of agree but not disagree. (If that made any sense!?)

Mikeb,
You mean the $650.00 spoiler, unpainted is stock Mazda or aftermarket upgrade?

I guess looks and personal taste are everything...

Don't spend more than 200 dollars on the stock Mazda Spoiler.

Rotary Extreme ,

Is the CF rear winf the same shape/size/adjustability of the real Mazdaspeed wing or did you tweak it in any way?
