Mazda rx8 front air dam, please help.

Hey,

So i bought this used front air dam.. and it didn't come with installation hardware or manual.. just a used one of hand.

And it seems to me like... How in the world do you install this..
I mean there are screws on the inside of the air dam that look like they need to go into the bumper... but i dunno... does that mean i have to drill holes in to the bumper?

Also is there a piece that connects to the grill... or what does it hold on to..?

help will be so much appreciated.

The Lord bless you and keep you all.

Thumbs up

Hmm... i may be reviving an old post but just to clarify things. I just ordered my Front Lip Air Dam from an online dealer on eBay and here's how I installed mine. First, you must remove the front bumper from the car. Basically, remove the side clear corners, take out the retaining rivets in each side's wheel well. (There's like 4 or 5 on each side. Open the hood and remove the guard near the latch where you can take those 4 bolts and 2 rivets out. There are 10 bolts on the bottom that you also need to remove. Once that is done, you can just pretty much un-snap it near the clear corners and pull the bumper strait off (best to have help) If you look at the inside of the front bumper, you'll see exactly where the stock Lip connects near the grill using 4 plastic rivet retainers. simply remove those and the two screws on each side of the bumper to remove the stock lip.

The new air dam requires you to drill to install this. It's best to start small and work your way up until you find the right size. I believe that you will need to drill 6 holes total in order to fit the new Air Dam Lip onto the bumper. Each drilling location is actually marked with a cross and a circle in the middle for where to drill + on the inside of the front bumper if you look closely. Drill the holes here and the small threaded pegs will push through them from the exterior of the front bumper. When i was fitting them in the holes i was working alone so I attached the 4 plastic rivet retainers up near the grill to keep it in place. Don't forget to remove the adhesive tape before you use the nuts to tighten the air dam on. Simply slide the threaded pegs through the holes and use the nuts to tighten them to the bumper. This will keep everything nice and secure.

After you have done both sides, you are pretty much done. Re-attach the front bumper with the new lip on and enjoy! Hope this helps. I may be doing a complete walkthrough for everyone if we don't already have one. On a side note, I'm currently at the office and have none of my reference papers nearby so this is all going off of memory. If anyone can add something I forgot, it certainly is a possibility. ;P

Good Luck!

i didnt drill the holes, cause i wasnt about to **** up my debadged/clearbra'd front bumper.

i just used doublesided tape and of course the thumb push pins that go into the middle section on the inside of the bumper.

its absolutely fine. its has a small gap for a few inches near the passenger side right in the radiator opening but honestly.. thats no big deal for not drilling into my bumper.

The Mazda Website http://accessories.mazdausa.com/weba...Name=2005+RX-8

And i quote, "Give your RX-8 a lowered, ground effects racer look, especially when combined with the sporty Side and Rear Aero Flares. Not for use with the Grille Trim Ring and automatic transmission vehicles." ???

At anyrate i would still get the front lip as it looks badass
