you would need a new windshield the only way to get the oem one out is to break it,,,
mines is getting sandblasted from road debris, and I imagine the rear window is the same deal, I could probably get a new front windshield by shooting it with a bee bee or chipping it with a rock, I have a low deductable, but I cant think of a way to break my rear window at the same time... hmm.... get a gun and shoot thru both windows with 1 bullet.... then claim it was a stray bullet while you were driving down the highway. some1 must have been hunting in the woods! |
hahhaahh thats good but I want to do it without destroying my interior as well...

Wow, it requires destroying the glass? IIRC there was a member here who was simply building a car to be race dedicated (I believe he had two 8's he was simultaneously building actually). One of the cars purchased was a nordic green with the moonroof. I really thought he purchased a new center piece and replaced it, without breaking the glass. For some reason I can picture images he posted in my head but could always be wrong...

^ a race car comes down to every single pound. I dont think that the weight concerns him personally however when on a race car its taken into close consideration.

I was replying to you saying that 'it was an overlay',,, and I said that for $1600 I doubt it its most likely a full replacemnet part,,,
I know what genuine JDM tuner parts cost, I buy nothing but genuine parts for my car... |

If it is a real roof and you pay someone to install it then it is going to be real expensive. There is a youtube video about the greek rx8 with a bunch of custom work. Part of the video shows them creating and installing their CF roof.
I'll get that Part uploaded to our Site + PM you the link UPDATE: LEG Motorsports parts link here 10% Discount off our website Parts pricing to RX8Club members... GW Japanparts.com * Since 1996 * |
overlay ehhhhh!!!!
not so exciting anymore.... |
I still kinda like it but not for 1600 for an overlay
|
yeah, i have no desire for an overlay cf roof panel. not that i wanted to pay to have my entire roof swapped out, ha ha, but an overlay is not-so-cool!! oh well...
|
and the search continues.
i got all excited. if you remove the sunroof, can you remove the 2 crossbeams that support the sunroof? i think yes... right? or do they add to the structural rigidity? lower center of gravity! |
yeah I wouldnt go removing those crossmembers....
|
Overlay for $1600? You can buy an adhesive carbon fiber sheet for much less at www.dragonplate.com/ecart/categories.asp?cID=12

I have no intrested in spening the money for the overlay or a real roof replacment but, if the cross members provided all the structure, would'nt it make sence that you could use the overlay for an actual replacement? Just a thought. Obviously the big question would be finding a ship to do the work. On a side note, if the corss members do provide all the structureal support, then the stock roof is probably all aluminum and not very much heavier then a wet carbon fibe roof. Dry carbon would be a different story. With dry carbon you might bhe able to remove the cross member and really save some weight. |

Funny, though. If you removed those crossmembers, you would probably end up collapsing your car inwards under high G's.. Maybe not so drastic... :) |

You know the look from those photos, it doesnt look like it would be to hard to do a full replacement, just nothing to replace it with |
