Plus, think of the weight savings!

Rotr8 03-01-2009 12:38 PM

I know right!
Its funny I thought I would be at the point where I would have been able to mod much more on my car and now after my Pettit SC all other mods are now cheap and there are more to get every week it seems...

Actually your the one who cant read my friend... "wouldnt make as much noise" refers that it wouldnt make as much noise as switching roofs, but will still be louder than stock... :banghead:

ZumnRx8 03-01-2009 01:34 PM

ok i dont know how we arent agreeing or seeing the same picture, but i agree with you. I hope its a CF cover, Like the cf covers for the side mirrors or a lip like Veilsides that just gos over your stock bumper....get what im saying? No exactly an overlay?

pdxhak 03-01-2009 02:28 PM

Hey guys I found the video on youtube I was talking about. It is a little over 10 minutes but it is worth watching. I'm sure many have already seen it or part of it because it has been posted here many times :)

For all the talk of sunroof or no sunroof, they kept theirs!

As you can see from the pics the install is going to be costly!!

Ok so the part is 1600 usd, but how much do you all think its actually going to cost to get it put on

Just watched the youtube video and yea theres no way its gonna by financially worth doing the installation is going to be ridiculous

Bunique 03-01-2009 02:37 PM

ya I don't think this leg cf roof would be an overlay since it's for their track car. Adding more weight wouldn't make sense. I'm assuming it's prolly a replacement.

Check the pics I posted. It is going to cost a lot. First you have a find a body shop you trust and that is willing to make such a modification. I could see body shops turning this work down for liability concerns. I really hope someone goes through with buying the roof and documents the install :)

BTW I will be placing an order for another part from Leg Motor Sports soon :ylsuper:

tubingchamp 03-01-2009 02:48 PM

We should get a GB going for this.. I want one.

But we should do it after summer ;) Because my S/C is first :O

mscamp02 03-01-2009 07:19 PM

so who is going to be the first one to order and try to install this, so the rest of us might know what all to expect

Bunique 03-01-2009 08:16 PM

I'm wondering what the underside is like.

Rotr8 03-01-2009 08:28 PM

you would need a new windshield the only way to get the oem one out is to break it,,,
mines is getting sandblasted from road debris, and I imagine the rear window is the same deal, I could probably get a new front windshield by shooting it with a bee bee or chipping it with a rock, I have a low deductable, but I cant think of a way to break my rear window at the same time...

for $1600 I doubt it...

$1600 for carbon from japan isn't dramatically expensive. Also M3 carbon roof is like 3-4 so... i'm wondering. Someone jump on this and test the waters! :)

maybe use a baseball or softball and state that you got hit several times parked outside of a high school game or something, and say the roof got hit to so you can get something out of that

I was replying to you saying that 'it was an overlay',,, and I said that for $1600 I doubt it its most likely a full replacemnet part,,,
I know what genuine JDM tuner parts cost, I buy nothing but genuine parts for my car...

Overlay wouldnt add more than 5lbs. You should hit the gym if thats going to concern you.

Chris 03-02-2009 12:17 PM

^ a race car comes down to every single pound. I dont think that the weight concerns him personally however when on a race car its taken into close consideration.

Nopstnz8 03-02-2009 12:29 PM

Couldn't you just have a shop make a cut out for the sun roof to go in, or would this ruin the structural integrity of the CF?

Wow that was pretty ignorant... Its a track car and like stated below every lb counts,,, no sense in adding unnecessary weight, there would be no point...

Most likely yes,,, The stamped sheet metal from the factory isnt what hold the weight of the sunroof thier are two structural cross memebers in the roof in between the outer shell and the headliner

The Greek's car is a totally different story every one of his parts was made one off,,, Ive tried to contact the shop that did his work about mass producing certain body panels including the roof and it was very very expensive. The Leg panel is well under the price I was given from the Greek's shop.... Thats why Im so interested...

mscamp02 03-02-2009 12:57 PM

^ So just what kind of prices where you looking at from the Greeks shop

pdxhak 03-02-2009 12:58 PM

I agree it is different but my point was you can see the bones of the roof and the fact they made a cut out for the sunroof. I still think we can learn from their install. Anyway here is a pic of them standing of the roof.

The roof and the front sections of the rear fenders

SiLVeRE8 03-02-2009 09:37 PM

IMO i dont think the carbon roof would be any lighter than the current aluminum roof we have. and $1600 for the carbon roof is just a bling factor... but i still want it!
