NJ just got an RX8. Need help finding some OEM exterior parts

Hey all, just got an RX-8 for a winter project. It starts but runs rough. I will tackle that soon.

In the meantime I figured I'd get started on the more visible exterior parts.
The previous owner installed some cheap, hideous looking, poor quality body kit, so soft that your finger sinks when you touch it.

%&^*& ricers ....

BUMPERS
---------------
So ... I am looking to get original front and rear bumpers, or a conservative, non-flashy, polyurethane body kit. Hopefully those parts won't set me back too much.

I'm searching ebay and will read up on here too.

TAIL LIGHTS
-------------------
The tail lights look "smoked" but i think it was a DIY job that didn't go that great. I may replace those if I find an inexpensive set.

EXHAUST TIPS
-----------------------
Oh and he also cut off the stock exhaust tips and welded on some fugly magnaflow ones. I guess I can just get some generic type from summitracing or some other place but if someone for some reason has a set of original ones, please contact me.

Thanks all. I'll be on here a lot getting this thing sorted out.

Do some searching, there are whole threads related to exterior. In my opinion the Mazdaspeed front bumper looks the best, but you will pay a premium for its high quality. They can also be hard to find. Are the tails painted or film? Film can be removed, paints a bit harder but it can be done. Just get new tips for the exhaust.

Jeeze man, I hope you got a good deal on the car cause it sounds like you're gonna spend a lot of money just going back to stock. I have V-red OEM front and rear bumpers, but it would cost about $300 each to ship to NJ via UPS, on top of what I'd sell them for. Maybe a little less for shipping if I could get them in 1 box instead of 2. What color are you looking for?

thanks for the response guys. The tails are painted, not film.

As far as the color I don't really care. I've accepted the fact that they would probably need to be painted but yes, it would be quite expensive to ship them long distance. Hopefully something will pop up on ebay.

Check in the for sale section of this site. Alot of body parts show up because people go aftermarket. I believe the paint can be removed. I have heard of people using gasoline but you would want confirmation on that. The best option might be trying to swap with someone who has stock tails that wants to smoke them.

Any pictures of the kit?

I'm just curious what it looks like.

But it does sound like you're going to be dishing out a ton of money to get this back to....stock.
I would look into purchasing Mazdaspeed parts or something.

to remove the tail light paint use brake fluid it might take about half an hour tho its not that easy lol and then use 2000 grip with a little soup and water and your back to a brand new tail light i did my tails so i know this will work you wont even see any scratches or anything

Just make sure you do the brake fluid thing with the taillights away from the car. That stuff will eat through your paint like acid.

my buddy alex lives in Clifton NJ and has a stock rx8 exhaust for sale for 50 bucks.

seems like the better route than buying tips and welding them on.

he just sold his rx8 for a zenki S14

If you still have lights and have not done nothing to them just sand them then go to maybe 600 then clear them they will look like new again , if you know some one with a good spray gun or any body shop should only charge you maybe 30 bucks for both. If you have ugly front head light do it too and they will look brand new

Thanks. I'm having the engine rebuilt right now, so once it's running I will be able to tell if/how much I like it

Hey all, I was going to attempt to open the tail lights and clean the "smokey"-ness but after I read what that entails, I don't want to go through the trouble.

That however means that someone, who wants to have his smoked, may want to trade. If anyone wants to trade non-smoked for smoked, please PM me.

Thanks.

Post your tailights in the for sale/for trade section. Youll get some action there I would guess.

Thanks guys. I went to polish my headlights to remove the UV damage i also decided to do the rears and I luckily realized that the idiot who owned the car before me actually spray painted the OUTSIDE of the headlights, so once I polished the entire tail lights the paint was gone, so I'm all set.
