i believe japanparts sells the real one that lights up......its not cheap......there was a member who made quite a few quality ones back in the day by the name of derwankle but those are uber rare.....try searching his name and you might find some members who might be willing to part with them

The OEM rear fog is the best looking, and if you really want to run it as a rear fog and not an accent light of some kind, it's really the only way to go. It is spendy though... over $250, but it comes with the switch and full wiring harness. You can get it at japanparts.com or mazdaparts.com.

Personally, I wish I could just find the OEM housing without the harness and switch. Someone used to sell it for around $100. I thought it was mazdaparts.com, but if it was they no longer do. Currently I have the derwankle housing which I modified to take a bigger bulb (921) and wired it up as a 4th brake light.

I had the derwankel rear light for a while. It was not all that bright and was held together with double sides tape and glue. The thing I didn't like about it is the lense wasn't crystal clear, not a fan of the circular markings in it.
I now have the jdm fog, but instead of doing the entire wiring for a rear fog, i just hooked it to an external switch. it's held by 3 screws on a bracket that the stock bumper has. It is also bright as heck with a 7440 bulb. The quality between the two is night and day.

I saw Ngo's car 2 weeks ago and was there the day he installed his Derwankle. ABSOLUTE night and day comparison. Once again he proves that getting jdm might take a little while and not be as kind on the wallet but at the end you definitely get what you pay for!

I agree about the circle patterns, and the color of the red plastic also doesn't match the the lenses in the taillights. One of these days I'll spring for the OEM piece.

Links through the Part number above: this is the Mazda Option Rear Fog install set

As has been posted, it's *not* cheap, but has been designed to meet required standards in countries where Rear fogs in lenses are a requirement + has everything you need for the install ( except the tools + time )

We always have these in Stock

SiLVeRE8 might start a group buy.

His version is the best I have seen so far.
