Hail ownage...

about a week ago my car was hit by one of the biggest hail storms in the last 2 decades. My car happen to be in the middle of the worst of it.

Insurance quoted the fix to be around 12grand, and i decided to just take that cash and fix it on my own. The damage covers : hood, roof, trunk, driver door, driver rear door, driver quarter and a bit of passenger quarter (especially the thin part above the door), and both fenders.

Any suggestions on how i should go about fixing my car? The PDR method seems like something worth trying on my own. Ive done lots of things that people say should be left to the pros (such as tinting windows, painting my car, vinyling my car etc.). I have yet to try Paintless dent removal.

Main issue is getting to the dents, I have no idea how to take apart my headliner, i dont know how to get the rear quarters and the part between the doors and the roof. Ive been trying to search but havent found much that could help. Any links to how to take things apart would be great!

I will posts pics when i have time!

I am not an expert on this, but hail can very easily total a car. My insurance co published the most payouts for natural disasters that they have paid. The top five were hail storms.

Anyway, as I recall PDR doesnt work if the metal has stretched or is aluminum. The hood is easy to replace tho. Really the rear 'quarter panel' is the biggest issue as it is difficult and expensive to remove and replace. I have heard 4-5 grand just for that. Factor in other panels and paint and it would likely be in the 10-15 grand area. Just not worth it unless you do the labor yourself.

IMO.

post pics. if you got 12 grand, i think you could pay someone to do the hardest parts, then do the others yourself. pay someone to do the roof and rear panels. but door the doors yourself maybe, and just buy a new trunk and new hood.

agreed tho, tx gets a lot of hail, and it can EASILY total a car...they would rather pay you 12 grand for a reason...hail damage is a complete pain in the ***

12 grand is not worth the fix, because the car is maybe worth 16 grand now (06 gt)

if i keep the car for another 2 years its going to be worth less than 12grand hence fixing it would be a bad investment. But im still trying to figure out how to do it on my own (doesnt hurt to try and learn new stuff, thats just me).

Any links to removing what panels to expose certain exterior parts?? i have no idea how to take apart the headliner, especially the front area with the airbags, im scared il set off the airbags or damage it.
