Front splash guard installation - what cutter to use on stone guard?

I am thinking of putting on the front splash guards. I found the helpful thread below. Installation seems straightforward, but one needs to cut the stoneguard on 8's with 18" rims.

It says to use an ultrasonic cutter or similar device. Any suggestions on what to use other than an ultrasonic cutter?

Thanks!

I just went out to home depot and bought me a generic all purpose cutter. The stone guard material isn't really a tough material, you'll feel it when you get it detached from the car.. just needs a tad bit of strength to get the cutters to actually cut through the guard.

I used a Dremel to cut the stone guard. If you are careful and have steady hands then you can make the cuts without removing the stone guard.

If I remember correctly.....and I probably don't, I think I just used a pair of tin snips and I don't think I took them off either. If you are carefully and don't use something too bulky to do the cutting, then you can do it with them on.

I used an exacto knife and some side cutters. The stone guard stuff is not tough, you really don't need any special cutting tools.

It is somewhat soft but a cutting tool would be way easier. Especially if you cut while it is attached to the car.

So you dont really have to have the stoneguard in order to install the front splash guards? I want to get one but I don't really want to cut into my rx8.

you just have to cut it so the base mounting point of the actual splash guard is in contact with the bottom of the car. The stoneguard, if i remember right, it's been a while, is just a long piece of rubber. use an exacto knife. not really cutting into the car...
