Do you have to remove bumper to replace headlight assembly?

I just bought a new RX8 and they need to replace the driver side headlight assembly due to a big stain in the plastic. They've ordered the new headlight but they said they'd need to remove the front bumper to replace it. Is there any way around this? Can you do it through the wheel well by removing the wheel and plastic trim? I'm very reluctant to letting a dealer tamper with the front end. I know they'll screw something up.

Yes...you need to remove the bumper. The headlight retaining bolts aren't accessable from anywhere else

the retaining bolts are about 2 inches under the lights (3 if i remember correctly) (2 under light and one under clear corner)...i wouldnt worry about the front end....its easy to take off and put on.....i would worry more about them putting your headlight in and making sure the auto leveler works properly

correct, you need to take off the front, but it's not all that hard.
