looks like he had an open version previously similar to what you were thinking, or it would probably sound the same; loud

Hey thanks for posting that! Any other videos on how loud was it with oem muffler mod and why did you decide to go with spintech muffler?
S2 rear bumper actually has opening once you remove center cover - I am guessing it is designed for tow hook?
My Car is predominantly driven to/on/from track and my current exhaust set up is stock header, dual resonated catless mazsport midpipe and oem muffler. Plan is to open that pipe in the rear of the oem muffler, weld the v-band clamp so I have easy way to attach "exhaust tip pipe" or shut it close when not on the track. I wonder if midpipe dual resonators will keep the noise level at bay somewhat. If that does not work I might go your route and replace stock muffler with one from Racing beat or whatever is going to cancel most of the noise without impeding the flow. shedding few lbs with oem muffler removal would also not be bad.

It is loud with single resonated, dual resonated will help and I aim on completing my modular exhaust system by having the inlet flange of my dual res. racingbeat midpipe converted to a vband. I am on making update videos when that happens.
Spintech is underrated IMO. That being said 3000 sportsman series single resonated is race car loud...cant get above 3200rpm in any gear and not have the stereo at 20... I have heard the 6000 series in a autox rx8 before and it's excellent. The best part is its design: no packing to burn away and the design accelerates the exhaust gasses out of the box...which is also good.
That hole in the S2 bumper is plenty. You're going to have a fun project! You could do a vband for the 3rd pipe, but the butterfly valve has been working great for 6~years now. I manually unlatch the valve open at the track, close it when I leave.

so butterfly valve worked well for you and didn't leak to much when closed? Saw few of them on amazon and they can be vacuum operated - could run vacuum line from intake (maybe VFAD nipple :-)). One that is open under WOT (no vacuum) and then shuts close at part throttle.
Which valve did you end up using and was it 2.5" or 3"?
so spintech muffler is similar to flow-master design then, however no packing makes them loud.
They claim they flow well, but when you look inside it is hard to see how?
Went to their web site, some interesting info regarding noise level one can expect with each of their mufflers:

Finally gut under the car yesterday and after doing some measurements I discovered that on S2 top of the exhaust cap on the back of the muffler is about 1 1/4" higher then the horizontal bumper metal cross member. Essentially final section of the exhaust pipe inside of the muffler basically points up while at the same time my add on center exit needs to point down to clear the bumper reinforcement effectively creating rather abrupt exhaust chicane ____/\___ due to the lack of space/distance to make that turn smoother.
Maybe I will be better off just deleting oem muffler and getting quietest high flowing aftermarket muffler/resonator that can fit in center exit configuration. Racing beat sells mufflers for $140, Borla has XR-1 and Vibrant has this ultra quiet resonator. Need to find out how much noise each can cancel.

I was thinking of doing a center exhaust set up that would have a triangle tip coming out of the rotor symbol in the back bumper. Have any of you seen something like this? I have searched and did not find any results. It looks pretty easy to do. What issues do you think I would have doing this?
