I like CF but I would never put it on the doors or anything. Not to mention GTP makes low-quality pieces (their body kits are famous for being sub-par).

If you really want CF pieces Carbon Creations and FiberImages are much better companies.

Most of the CF products are hand laid, I don't think they are strong enough to endure any crash. You don't want sharp carbon pieces flying all around you.

coldnoodle - If i'm not mistaken the CF doesn't break. That's the problem with CF hoods, in a head-on crash, instead of the hood buckling like the stock hood's crumple zones, it goes through the windshield, and lets just say the effects of that will have you light headed.

do not be mistaken CF can break. I used to play Lacrosse and i tried to get the lighest stick possible, so i got a CF shaft. The 2nd game i played with it i broke the finish on the CF(I cross checked some one and broke the stick in half). So instead of having a lacrosse stick i had a nice pair of num chucks. B/C the CF was still holding together but not in the form of the stick.

In addition carbon fiber, unlike steel, breaks off into, well fibers, rather than shards and shrapnel. I like the way carbon fiber employs that extra margin of safety, especially during impact, not to mention its unrivaled lightness.

As for these pieces, are they really carbon fiber, or are they steel doors with just carbon sheets over them? Either way, I wouldn't be caught dead with something as ricey as that. For all that's worth I could buy a turbocharger. :D

BTW, CF do break, that is why they use it on the race cars. Other than its light weight property, the CF parts also absorbs the force and break up, that makes easier on the driver.

Well, I was wrong to say it doesn't break, what I should've said is that it doesn't break at the crumple zones (for a hood) making it less safe....

The Lambo Diablo is mainly CF. It's simply painted and crash tested. You get hints of the CF in the door frames and engine opening.

That's classy.

Making sure that you announce to EVERY passing motorist that you have a senslessly CF accessory package seems funny. Expensive way to make you car unsafe, more expensive, and ricey.

The Porsche Carrera GT ($450,000) is all carbon fiber... I have pictures of the full CF chassis from the Detroit autoshow if anyone wants to see.

Sorry to ressurect a dead thread, had a thought nobody mentioned. All F1, IRL, champ cars are all carbon fiber, so that should put an end to the safety conversation. Had pit passes to the last indy race at Pikes Peak International, witnessed a car backed into the wall at maybe 160. In the pits one of the crew members gave a big *** ragged chunk of painted, broken carbon fiber from the body to a kid next to us, pretty cool. Not exactly sharp like I expected broken cf to be.
What's up with all the fear of rice? I feel like I'm in a homophobic locker room or something. Ya bunch of carbophobes. "Oh Jim, I love the weight and function of the new wing but will it make my *** look ricey? I'm so conflicted!"

It's true that most professional racing vehicles use carbon fibre body panels all around, but keep in mind that the chassis upon which the cf panels lay are a web of welded and bent chrome-moly/steel/iron tubes. Having an aftermarket door made of carbon fibre like that would in no way protect the cockpit area from a side impact. It is just so much "less safe" than a standard door. If one were hoping to improve track times by reducing weight on the car, CF body panels would be a step to take AFTER removing all the car's furniture and miscellaneous upholstery.
