Great Job! I am sure you also brought a tear to PoLaK's eyes. :D

Very nice looking indeed. Those look good with the silver base paint and red lettering.

As far as on a Titanium, I would like to see one with red. I think the contrast would look nice.

With my T/Grey I wanted a subtle approach. Red might be nice. Anyhow, here is the paint I used.

BTW, I made the RX8 stencil myself. Maybe that would have bought a tear to Polak

Thanks rxr8ed. I personally picked red with silver lettering because I thought it complimented the red and black interior as well as the silver paint job. What color is your interior gong to be? I think black with a contrasting lettering like gold or silver would be a nice subtle look for a titanium grey 8.

Everybody is talking about buying these kits. So far I'm not impressed with what I've seen from them. First off I personally think spraypaint gives a better looking coat and is easier to work with(available at any autoparts store). Yes it does require masking but its worth it. Also I know I might sound like I work for him by saying this but the POLAK stencils were $2.50 a piece. I bought 6 just in case I screwed any up but wound up only needing the four. All in all the whole job cost me about $30 bucks. Hell, clear sidemarkers cost more than twice that.

Now that you mention it and I went back to look closer, I see now that it isn't PolaK's.

Spray painting takes a lot of preparation such as removal of some of the parts, extensive masking, area preparation, etc. The kit I used is the Duplicolor kit. I defy you to tell the difference between a spray painted version and the brush on version that I have on my RX-8.

The Calipers are NOT smooth in any way so all spraying will do is have the same effect as brushing but will take many more coats to be as thick as the brush on paint. If they were as smooth as a body panel, that would be very different.

The Duplicolor kit I got is a ceramic paint and is rated to over 500 degrees Farenheit. Unless you are racing, your brakes will likely never get that hot. This paint is thick and fills in much of the uneven surface and dries quickly so you can put on three or more coats within a half day's time. I still feel that the thick brush on paint is the way to go when finishing the calipers.

Total cost for my project was $15 for the Duplicolor Caliper kit which included cleaning spray, wire brushes, disposable paint brush, masking tape and the pint o paint (Enough to put at least 6 coats on our RX-8 brake calipers if you wanted to do so, I put only three on) and $10 for PoLaK's high quality vinyl stencils which I left as stickers because I wanted them to be black and didn't want to take the extra time. That is a total of only $25 which is far less than the cost of side markers or just about anything else for appearances, with the exception of the RX8Fun Original Third Brake Light Logo Mask, see my avatar and click on the banner in my sig line below. :D (Gratuitous advertising)

Hammerite is just metal paint, BUT I've used it on calipers before with no problems. The last car I did, had them painted with the same stuff and no paint peeling or darkening after 4 years. I did make a point however of cleaning the calipers everytime the alloys were washed (approx once every 2 weeks).
