Battery Relocation Theory

So I have been considering this idea for quite some time, and I have dipped into the previous forums about relocating the battery, but they all seem to move them to the trunk.
I want to move mine to where the washer fluid tank is, my big question is
A. What kind of battery do I need get to fit there, or would the one I have stock fit?
B. re-routing the wires, I read confusing stuff about connecting fuses or something strange, or is it much simpler than that.. I mean I have painted the inside of the head lights, I think I can handle something crazy.

I dont want to move it to my trunk because I often use my trunk and have crap flying around back there... plus I saw the JDM kit one, and was like hey.. I want that.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

RE-Amemiya has a kit that relocates it there, but it is made for RHD cars.

A few people on here have made them before, search battery reloaction.

I'll take some pics of mine tomorrow

You can pretty much move the battery where ever you want as long as you are tech worthy. There is a thread that has pix of modded engine bays, i'll try and find it to show you what ppl have done. but basically where ever you want to move it you can, you just have to find out what is entailed in moving it there and if it is worth it.

thanks for the directions on where to do some searching... Haha, the only cool thing I did to my engine bay so far i paint my washer cap black, and put a DC wristband on my brake resevoir. Haha,
But yeah I started removing my washer tank, and attempted to put a spare battery in that area.. I might just save some money and buy a Braille battery and set that in there rather than shove a huge battery there.

nope... I removed this mod, put back my original washer bottle, and have this in the battery box...it's so little I figured it wasn't rwally worth the trouble of relocation.

^spin9k how does that battery work out for you in winter? In NH i know it can get very very cold and I have heard these smaller batteries have issues starting in the winter. Do you experience that?

I would like to get a smaller battery but do they really work in terms of longevity and cranking power?

To answer both your questions..

..I've been using these batteries for about 4 yrs now. They work fine with no starting problems and last well given two caveats:

1. The parasitic losses inherent in the RX-8 will discharge the battery after a a couple weeks to the point it sounds weak/you know it's low charge starting the car. Normally even weak it starts anyway, the starter motor kicks the engine over enough. Real solution (which I got at Walmart) is to use a tiny battery tender unit ~$20 when you are planning on leaving it unused for weeks. Regular intermittent daily use (it's not my DD) is not a problem.

2. I learned using my 1st of these batteries that if you do let it discharge on a regular basis, the battery looses the ability to chargeup. Point being, and it's specifically noted in the docs on their website that this type of failure (which I guess is due to the battery technology used) is not covered by warranty. How they'd know that I'm not sure if you took one back.

It does have a two year replacement warranty, but the store to return it to was too far away and I missed the window to do that. Anyway, I'm on my 2nd year with this 2nd battery, it's going strong. After track season and during the winter I do put the OEM battery back in and the little guy on trickle charge on the shelf. Heck the added battery on the front is prob some benefit when it's cold and icy lol.

That's one reason I did away with the relo idea - this makes changing out the batteries a snap as there's no add'l wiring to remove.

spin 9k is right on the button though about the upkeep and the use of the battery. My battery is on the car all year round with no issues but I am in FL.

Obviously Spin2k's battery is not a "deep cycle" type and therefore the not-in-warranty caveat.
btw: I too use a Battery Tender all Winter. As it's covered outside I actually mount the Tender near the battery (not so close that fume igniition is an issue). When I take it out on sand/salt/snow free days I just spool up its cord under the hood.

sweet fenders!!!! but yeah right now I am waiting on a friend to bring me a battery that is small enough to fit into the washer fluid area. Haha, I'm trading him some salmon for a battery. Haha.
Can you send me some more inside the engine bay pictures?

Well this one is pretty badass I had japanparts add it to their lineup its made for rhd but i think it will fit do you have 1,000 bucks to find out lol. I was going to get it until i realized it was crazy expensive. Its a catch can, washer tank and battery relocation. I think someone here should make something similar cough cough Race roots.
