The amber is in white when unlided, so it is kinna a shealth bulb and if it works well it is a very good alternative and I will order one for the front blinkers as well. Side markers are ok and no need to change them. I think I change all the 194 in the car too, including the license plate at the back which have the blue vision (slightly yellow/slightly blue) ... I maybe wasting my money there :p
So you changed the license plate lamp before? I remember when I pulled it to get power to my white neon license plate mod it was not easy. I used needle nosed plyers with duct tape reversed on them to get a good enough grip to pull it, that sucker was stuck in there tight. The white LED 194 I have in the front puts out quite a light. The translucent lens keeps the light from projecting out the front and it sort of has a bluish cast to it. I have always liked LEDs and was going that route when I first started changing but was afraid that the angle wouldn't be good for turn signals and now that they have a 270 degree angle lamp, this might be the way to go. :D Besides, LEDs should last for up to 20 years with the use they will get as a blinker or running light.

Yeah... I did it. I dunno whether to do it again and risk to crack the bumper. It is whiter than normal and I don't want cops to see it say "hay that is different" and I have a personalised plate as well. I may leave it for now but will change the mirror, 2 on the door.

Talking about tough getting it out. How about the parking lights in teh front... they are real PITA!

Tell me about it! I did it by taking off the ECU cover on the passenger side, I could reach the driver side without a lot of difficulty. Have you changed the front turn signals ever? If you want to talk about cussing.....grrrrrrrr I had to have my 15 year old stick his little hand in there and do it, I have big hands and fingers and I couldn't even get close.

I did the same thing the same way for the front parking light although the ECU cover is on the driver's side I found lighten it up and see the light putting it in is much easier than doing it blind

I thought you change the turning blinkers from the wheel guard?

The ECU on the US model is on the passenger side because we are in the northern hemisphere! :D All you south of the equator dudes drive backwards.

Yes, you do get to the front turn signals from the wheel wells but, that was still too tight for me.

Does anyone know what size the ashtray light bulb is? I'm doing some surgery for an XM roady install, and I was thinking about a red or blue backlight for the receiver...

I have the 15 LED Brake lights and they are %100 better then the 9led's I had before. I have Red 194 6LED lights coming to replace the map light's they are the same config as the 15 leds. I also ordered new 194 6 leds for the front parking lights. I a reluctant to do the turn signals because they require the adapter to get them to work right.

Nat,

Lucky you said that coz I was tempting to change the signals blinkers.

Aren't they 7440? why do you need an adaptor?

THe adapters I am talking about are LED Load Equalizers http://autolumination.com/equalizers.htm

I believe they prevent the lights from blinking to fast. You need them to install LED's for turn signals. 4 of them 1 for each light.

They will work but you need to get the LED Load Equalizers.

I was wondering if you changed out all 4 whether it makes a difference or not. I can see just two with the load on the incadescents and the LEDs but with 4 it may not make any difference

I got my test 15 LEDs today from autoilumination. I tested them with a 12 volt power supply, sorry, I am having trouble typing because I cannot see the screen so well, I am nearly blinded. :D Seriously, these things are bright!!!

I am about to go put the tail/brake light lamps in, I got two of those. I only got one clear and one amber of the 7440 for a test. When I lit them up, they were brighter than hell. I will probably put the white 7440 in the third brake light as a test. Eventually I will change out the reverse lights with these as they are so much brighter than the chromed lamps. I am planning on buying 3 more amber 7440s for the turn signals. With these aeditions I will be totally LED lit in the front and back except for the head lights and fog lights, of course.

OK, I got back in a little while ago. I could not put in the one amber test LED all the way into the socket, there are ears on it that prevent this from happening. These will have to be filed down to get it in the socket all the way. I'll try to take some pictures of this later. Although I couldn't get it in the socket, I could get it to work and as reported, it flashed fast as if there wasn't a lamp in the socket at all. So, I do not know what it would do with all four as of yet. I only bought one as a test.

The white 7440 was a disapointment in the third brake light. Since there is not a reflector in this lamp housing, it was dimmer than the stock clear lamp. However, in the reverse light socket it was at least three times brighter than the white chrome style lamp. I will buy another of these to replace the other chrome reverse light.

The greatest performer was undoubtedly the 7443 15 LED array brake light/ tail light. In comparison to the 9 LED from before, this thing outshone the former lamp by a vast margin, it is extrememly bright and I am very pleased with its results. Of course this housing has refelctor lenses which helps this greatly. I can highly reccommend the use of these in the brake / tail light socket.

Pictures will be forthcoming, probably tomorrow night.

I already have the 5 LED side markers. I am quite happy with them. I donly think I would want to have them brighter and they do not have the reflector in the lamp housing anymore either so I do not see an advantage to chaing the corner lamps out, in my case.

I reckon it is waste of effort to change the bulb that have the solid covers, like the 3rd brake light, the front side blinkers and even my rear fog lights. I reckon LED is good direction of light but lack of intensity. It certainly look brighter as it directly shine at your eyes.

Therefore it is great if the front/rear set of blinker and the reverse light is working. I will buy the whole set if it is proven to work (not to blink like crazy). The mailing cost is still too dear to justify the trail.

So thanks a lot Dennis for trying out. I highly appreciate it
