hi im new to this forum but im planning on getting 6000k hids for my 2004 rx-8. i looked at the code list (sticky) you all have posted. i just still alittle confused on what type of bulbs i would need. i have a automatic if that helps.

how can i tell if i have oem hids or halogens?

sorry for the noob questions. im just like some of the people here trying to get some infomation on there cars and fix it up how i want.

 

well look at the bulbs to tell wether they are halogens or HID's, that is the only way i can shed light on that for you. It will appear whiteish with the stock HID's, when you turn them on they flash bright then warm up to their true color. If they are halogens when you turn them on they will not "warm up" they will just turn on and be yellow. The HID's 35w D2S bulbs. Search ebay for D2S then your desired bulb color, I have 8000k on my car. in order to install them you need to jack up the car and remove the bumper lining inside the wheel well and attack the light from the back. your choice wether or not you take off the wheels but i suggest you do. Here is a picture of 8000k low beams and fog lights.

I would have to say yes. You have the "line" where the headlights shine. Also, if you turn on your headlights with the car off, you should hear a buzz/humm, coming from the ballast. The definitely look HID. When you turn them on do they shine bluish and almost instantly change color?

 

i dont hear any buzz/hummimg only when the car is off ad the door is open. should i take a pic with the lights on facing the car?

 

i'm 99% sure those are HID's. sit in your car with the windows down in a quiet place (such as inside of that garage) and turn them on. you will here buzzing i promise.

 

^+1. I am almost certain they are HID as well. It does need to be quite for you to hear it. Is your far a GT? If it is, unless it was custom ordered, it will have HID.

 

no sure as far as i know its just the base model rx-8 with factory fogs.

 

what kind of options does your car have? do you have bose? do you have a sunroof? do you have leather? do you have traction control? if you have any of those it is likely you have HID's
