**finally smoked my tails**
#28
Thankfully in my state they are still legal. If you can't see a bright *** light behind 20% tint then you should not be driving, or at least open your eyes.
One of my absolute worst pet peeves is people who have brake lights out. When I first did this I made sure the light was easily still visible during the day.

So do we already have a DIY for smoking the 8? I will whip one up if we don't. I think next I would like to either have my rims powdercoated black or get some different ones.

i smoked mine as well.. but not too black.. did you sand, clear coat and wet sand? cuz i highly doubt it'll look the same once you remove it w/ paint remover.

i just did mine yesterday with that tamaya stuff. 3 coats. looks really nice. not blacked out, the color is "smoke". up close it's kinda matte/cloudy, so i definitely need to put some polishing stuff on there. the color/tint is damn near perfect though. i'll try to post pictures later...

There's mine. I think I went a little overboard. At night, the light is clearly visible and looks badass. But during the day, people can't really see the brake lights. I'm doing the third brake light in a few days and I think I'll go a little lighter.

Wet sanding eliminates orange peel and evens out the clear coat... imo there is no way around it if you want to achieve best results... polishing wouldn't do anything if the clear coat is bad to begin with....

I am considering smoking my tails too, but I am not entirely sure how it would look on the Winning Blue. My windows are all tinted very dark, and I think smoked tails would compliment it well. Also, I really love the shape and details of the tails, so I want that to still be visible. Can anyone recommend a quick and easy way to tint them slightly? I really like the look of flip's and w0rm's tints. Thanks!

^ Thank you for the compliment...
I dunno about "quick and easy"... your choices would be doing a vinyl overlay (<--tried it and major fail for me... ) or bite the bullet and paint them... VHT night shades come out pretty dark compared to the TAMAYA smoke. Good Luck

Yeah, I will probably wind up going with the vinyls first - as an experiment. You can get them pretty inexpensive online and I figure that it might be worth a try, even if it fails, not a really an expensive failure. Plus, if I decide I am not wild about it, they're pretty easy to remove.
Of course, I also want to get some LEDs in there, but I need the new tail lights to come in first, and I don't want to make them too dark with tints that LEDs don't get the job done.
I'll try to get some pictures up if I get around to giving it a go. Who knows, maybe it'll work out alright!
