Tactrix Openport 2.0 Cable Replacement

Hello All,

I've recently purchased MazdaEdit and an OBDXPro VX cable since Tactrix Openport 2.0 cable is no longer available and it was mentioned on the MazdaEdit website to be a supported cable. I ran into issues with downloading my OEM ECU file and reached out to both MazdaEdit and OBDXPro. They both confirmed that the OBDXPro VX cable does not work with the RX-8. OBDXPro said that they have found the communication line from the RX-8 to be noisy which causes communication issues. They also said they are working on a product for this but are several months out from releasing anything.

With all of that being said, does anyone know of any sort of replacement for the Tactrix Openport 2.0 cable?

That's plain bull... the CAN bus uses differential signals that very resilient to noise. Maybe the hardware in the dongle is too slow to run at 500kb but even that's a stretch as the tech is 3 decades old already....

Every time I try to download the OEM file I get an error message and it doesn't matter which ECU template I'm using (A, B, even tried the R3 out of desperation). The OBDXPro VX cable firmware is up to date and I'm using the VX driver. The only thing left for me to try would be an older version of the VX driver.

Do you know of any other cable that will work that's not completely sketchy like knock off Tactrix clones?

If you don't mind me asking, which specific clones are you using?

What drivers did you use with them? The Tactrix 2.0 drivers or whoever made the cable?

Quick update, I might have just gotten really lucky and I finally got my OEM dump file downloaded with the OBDXPro VX cable. I submitted it to get turned into a tunable file but it sounds like MazdaEdit and OBDXPro both do not recommend that I try to write with the cable.

It was confirmed to me again that the issues that I have been experiencing probably have been due to the noise in the CANBUS for the RX-8, which interrupts the communications. The OBDX wasn't designed for the lower voltage system used and I must have just gotten lucky to get the dump file downloaded.

I'm thinking about getting the Tactrix Openport 2.0 cable clone below as it appears to be a better quality clone than the others. The concern that I have is that it states in the listing that you must use their drivers or risk bricking the cable/your ECU or both. Anyone have any experience with this cable?
