Reading CEL with AccessPort with other manufacturers

Can AP read/clear code for other manufacturers and or model?

I have AP for Mazda RX-8.

I helped fellow member to read his RX-8 CEL code once.
It works with other 8 without uninstalling AP from my car.

Just wonder will it work with other make / model too ?
