New Adaptronic Standalone ... Your Opinion?

My friend pointed me to this ECU ... I will allow the video to summarize for me....
But in a nutshell, this is a standalone that takes complete control of fuel, spark, and all the RPM actuated intake ports, etc. I don't think there is OMP control tho

I think I found my stand-alone! More discussion on pros and cons!

reading comprehension ftw

This unit is designed to retain the factory ECU in a 'piggyback' arrangement, but it is NOT an interceptor unit. This unit still allows full control of fuel, spark, and various important actuators on the engine. The Adaptronic unit is positioned on top of the factory ECU in the engine bay.
piggyback, not stand alone

^ The only thing they say they use the oe ECU is just for the electronic throttle control ... who knows how honest that is though

the factory ECU continues to control all the other functions, see the other thread on the same subject

The factory ECU continues to control and/or communicate with the following:
- Drive-By-Wire (DBW) electronic throttle (and therefore idle control)
- Anti-pollution
- Immobiliser
- Air conditioner
- Thermofans
- OBDII / CAN system

The Adaptronic unit takes full control of the following:
- Spark timing (fully sequential) and spark split
- Fuel Injection (3 levels of staging, with sequential injection on first primary injectors, paired injection on second primary injectors, paired injection on secondary injectors)
- Secondary Side Valve (SSV)
- Variable Dynamic Intake (VDI)
- Auxiliary Port Valve (APV)
- Variable Fresh Air Duct (VFAD)

Sounds pretty much like the functions of a stand-alone to me.... think of the things that old 80s and early 90s ECU's did ... did they have to worry about DBW ... no
2nd O2 sensor? No
Immobilizer? No
AC? No ... it was usually a separate unit for the fancier ones
OBD2? No .. didnt exist
ThermoFans ... maybe, but you can just as easily install a switch

General Comprehension and Critical Thinking ftw

It's always worked, just one of the few to actually use it.

Now there is a huge search box up top that wasn't there when i was here in the past.

Nuke brought up a good point in the other thread. We should move out of the vendor thread at some point.

I already have a Cobb, but turblown said he will not tune with it. he is recommending this unit. I'm just trying to decide if it is worth it.

From what i've read so far, i might want to use both. I just haven't heard many people's experiences that actually have one of these.

I am in the same boat as you. Eventually I may get a large enough turbo to warrant the use of the Adaptronic, when Cobb becomes unusable. However, I will try to see how far I can take Cobb in terms of power ... but don't hold your breath ... that build won't start until this winter

The problem with the AP is that shops have no easy way to tune it themselves and consumers are locked out of a handful of tables that are only available in the Pro version.

I'm starting small with my convergence between the AP and Adaptronic. As it stands now if you want to pass emissions you're still locked in with the AP and I don't really see that changing with the Select version of the Adaptronic. You'd end up being full stand-alone for it to emulate the AccessPORT.

Really? which tables are those?

As far as I know the only difference between Pro and ATR is that Pro can load maps on multiple APs whereas ATR is tied to one.

For the 4AT there are 2 additional idle tables that only Pro can get to. Also, only Pro can get to the speed limiter table (single entry).

Also, it appears that there is a completely different table for the ignition startup up table that you can only get to in Pro.

And finally, this is all speculation on my part gathered from the "real" pros, but Pro also allows you to walk entire address blocks whereas ATR only gives you access to those provided out of the box.

There are a few others, but it's been a while since I've chatted with Jeff about it.

As usual, the most misinformed people are the ones most likely to speak up first and mislead everyone else.

The problem with Accesstuner is that it is an unfinished product.

There are hundreds of tables and thousands of parameters that you cannot edit. The only ones that I'm sure that Pro gives you is four open loop baro fuel tables, and they are actually rather useless. They are a multiplier to the value specified in the throttle fuel tables. The greater of throttle fuel enrichment times the baro multiplier or the load-based open loop enrichment is selected as the enrichment value.

Mazda has all the baro OL tables set to 1.0 in every calibration, effectively disabling them. Some people have suggested connecting the baro sensor to the manifold, and using these tables like a MAP supplement. This is simply stupid, as the ecu actually expects a real baro measurement in many other places.

thanks oltmann. i'm gonna find that cruise data too! as far as the other person goes, I guess its time I just create an ignore list.

Our moderation team has demonstrated clear bias... as far as I'm concerned it's a lose lose.
