Helping NEwB Tuners Questions: Add a ? get an answer
OK ok, I am very new to these forums but I have been studying these forums like crazy for the past like 2 months. This is more oriented towards the the E-manage newbs question. thats me, this is to help and share from what i have learned Please Correct me if I am wrong but his is so there is one place with all the questions
1)First off- Is the E-manage usable in the RX-8- Yes and they have a harness so it is direct plug in
2) There are dongles that are attachable to the harness, Currently there are 3 dongles and a adapter that are out for the harness. First adapter is for the 02 sensor to allow the car to run in closed loop to be able to tune more in the lower RPMS. Second adapter Is a RPM adapter so the car can read proper RPMs. Third one is a ignition adapter coil fixes?? I think also ther is an adapter for some that have CEL becaue of the O2 dongle. Mazda maniac has a fix on that with a diode.
2) Is there a difference between the RX8 turbo E-manage and the regular blue. No and yes. No because it is a basic e-manage blue any which way you look at it, yes because there are preprogramed maps for a turbo set up and the harness that comes with it will work for a turbo.
3) Can you still use a turbo emange for a NA setup. from what I have tested yes I currently have it hooked up but I earased the turbo maps and have a map with all zeros in the Values.
4) What do you need to tune the E-manage- Definitely anything that can read proper air fuel ratios. Canscan, Scanalyzer, wideband 02 sensors....... Proper tuning = no blown motor, Greddy Support tool and cable.
5) what cable can I use for the e-manage- ONLY A GREDDY CABLE!!!!!!! I cant stress this enough because I found out the hard way. It is a propritary cable be carefull!!!!!
6) Whats the difference of Canzoomer and E-mange- well I can only answer that the maps and tuning is a little different. I have the e-manage so I cant say much I just know that the values for adjusting fuel is opposite,(e-manage neg# to take away fuel, Canzoomer +#to take away fuel) thats the only diffrence in essence I think they are the same.
7) How do you tune the Darn thing- OK I need some help hear FORUM Gurus! um first after you have a base line data of the car you need to know the AFR of the stock car before adjusting. Ideal mixture vs stock compare and adjust. so.....(stock= 11.9 AFR and Ideal is 13.2- 13.7{true ideal is 14.76}) find the difference 11.9-13.2= 1.3. 1.3 is the difference so you have to adjust in the Greddy support tool. this is my problem i dont know what -1 point on the greddy= vs ?points of fuel adjustment?????? I am goign to make some test runs and keep editing to this post.
OK so this is as for as I got I currently have a stock RX-8 with just an e-manage I just wanted to test the waters a little and I have learned alot so I wanted to share the heart aches of searching through the internet and forums. I by no means am a tuner but I have done alot of fabrication and project cars. So I kinda know what the heck am I doing =P Please keep this thread going so the young ones like myself dont get lost and end up doing something dumb to there cars!!!!

OK another update.
8) I think I found a small fix. The air pump that comes on when the e-manage is hooked up stays running. If you flip flop the blue wires on the O2 sensor dongles it makes it run forever. so flip flop the blue wires and it will only run for like 5 seconds then shut off. Can anyone else confirm this????
9) When adding new maps car has a hard idle or it dies. I found when I played with the maps to find what increments made changes is still tends to remember those settings. When you find the settings make a completly new map dont used the tested maps it will fixes those hard idels and even the dying out.

Thanks for the advice, I just thought I would put this together for those like me that had to go through some painstaking searching on how to tune the emanage/ if it works. Oh an dont watn to spend 500 on a ulitimate LOL.
Oh sorry for not updating the last post I put was unfounded so it doesnt work if you swap the wires
I guess we are still going to have to use the diode/rectifier that mazdamaniac has been using.
I am still tring to find out the exact increment adjustments so if any one know please feel free to post that info that would be really nice. I.E. -1 on the emanage = ?. what point/percent on the Air fuel ratio?
