Greddy EMU upgrade kit or EMU?

there doesn't seem to be a decisive answer to what the EMU upgrade ignition chip is for and if there is a difference in this chip between the non upgrade EMU.

for a custom turbo kit is it recommended to get a EMU upgrade kit or the normal version harnesses and ignition chip?

get the E-manage Ultimate, NOT the BLUE

i dont know if there is a thread specifically about this, but read the EMU threads, theres plenty of reason to get the EMU over the blue

yeah I'm onlu considering the ultimate.

this thread is the most informative on using the emu for other purposes but it still isn't clear which way to go.

The universal Emanage Ultimate can be used if it is wired correctly and the jumpers are set correctly. It won't have the ignition chip and it won't have all the resistor/dongles/tricks that the Upgrade kit has.

The Emanage Ultimate Turbo Upgrade Kit comes with an ignition chip and a wiring harness. The harness uses resistors and an A/F dongle to "trick" things. At this time I don't really understand what the ignition chip does. MazdaManiac might know better but I think its purpose is an attempt by Greddy to fix the ignition issues.

was it like it has something to do with the blocking plate ? the upgrade one has something to trick the computer into thinking its in closed-loop or soething. I forgot. MM said something about it b4

The blocking plate really isn't what "tricks" the car. There is a resistor in the upgrade kit harness that takes the output signal for the APV from the PCM, "removes" some of the signal strength, then send it back to the PCM. What this does is "tricks" the PCM into thinking the valve is opening when it actually is not. The blocking plate is then inserted into the UIM to prevent any airflow from going through those auxiliary intake ports. What MazdaManiac and I have done is remove this resistor and reconnect the wires so that the APV is back under the control of the PCM just like stock.

There is also an "Air Fuel trick" implemented in the upgrade kit. It uses a dongle to force the car into open-loop by sending a 23:1 A/F ratio signal from the front O2 sensor to the PCM.

Its just a "trick" Chet. All it does is simulate the car is in the cold start mode.

Not necissarily. I regularly see that kind of AFR when coming off the throttle after a high load situation.

Sorry for hijacking, but since the other thread discussing the upgrade kit does not come to any concrete conclusions about whether the upgrade or the universal is the one to get for N/A applcations.....

....which one is more appropriate for N/A applications ? Universal or Upgrade kit ?

So why Greddy did not provide a blocking plate in the first kit with Emanage Blue BUT they did provide in the latest kit with Emanage Ultimate???

easier to tune when there is no additional port opening up.

in case you doubt me. On June 29, 2006, greddy announced the change. They would be using EMU from now on. Among the changes, was the blocking plate:

so i understand an upgrade kit for the pople who had already purchased EMU, but why not just change the product, that way when new units are sold no upgrades are needed.... or ... have they made a change and if you purchase a new EMU you do not need an upgrade kit?.... just alittle lost here

yeah, they stopped setting the kit with blue, and the new kit included the emu, along with a price tag increase.

shortly after they started offering an upgrade kit for those who had the old kit with blue, so they could upgrade to emu too.

We don't really know why they didn't include the blocking plate with the blue. Probably becasue they didn't have a means of preventing the ports from opening. With the Ultimate they do.

Also, The Ultimate Upgrade kit is better for both NA and FI. To get it to work properly for both setups the wiring harness needs to be rewired.

ok so i am N/A working on a nitrous setup ... if i purchase Ultimate and the boomslang harness i should be fine as far as engine management ... the only thing i will have to "hardwire" in is the aux. input for the nitrous to retard the timing when its active correct?

ok so i am finally lookin to purchase the Emanage ultimate and am still a little confused on which harness to buy. I was planning on just purchasing the universal ultimate with greddy's plug and play RX8 harness along with the A/F harness to hook my wide band into the EMU. is this the best way to go for me since i never plan on going forced induction ... only nitrous?
